Senior Accountant – CPG Sector

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Mexico, +5 more countries.

📋 Description

• Supervise daily accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) operations, ensuring accurate transaction recording.

• Evaluate and process vendor invoices using Bill.com, applying the correct accounting codes.

• Review and manage account reconciliations for vendors and customers.

• Create and assess invoices for wholesale, B2B, and distributor clients.

• Track AR aging and follow up on overdue balances.

• Oversee customer deductions, chargebacks, credits, and distributor remittances.

• Apply customer payments and deposits to outstanding invoices effectively.

• Investigate and resolve unapplied or misapplied cash transactions.

• Conduct and review reconciliations for bank accounts, credit cards, and balance sheets.

• Document and reconcile sales from Amazon Seller Central, Shopify, wholesale, and distributor channels.

• Align sales channel reports with QuickBooks Online.

• Review and record channel fees, commissions, returns, discounts, refunds, and deductions accurately.

• Assist with inventory and cost of goods sold (COGS) accounting.

• Utilize SPS Commerce data and reports to ensure precise sales and invoicing.

• Take ownership of assigned month-end closing tasks, prepare journal entries, and maintain supporting schedules.

• Scrutinize balance sheet and profit & loss accounts for precision and unusual activities.

• Detect discrepancies and communicate issues for resolution.

• Collaborate with the Controller and three Staff Accountants.

• Review accounting work to ensure accuracy across client accounts.

• Participate in client onboarding sessions and continuous client meetings.

• Communicate directly with clients concerning accounting inquiries, discrepancies, and missing information.

• Manage multiple accounting priorities and deadlines across client accounts effectively.

• Maintain comprehensive, accurate, and confidential accounting records.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.

• Over 3 years of practical accounting experience.

• Direct experience with consumer packaged goods (CPG) companies or clients.

• Strong knowledge of AP, AR, cash application, bank reconciliations, inventory, COGS, accruals, and month-end close processes.

• Practical experience with QuickBooks Online.

• Hands-on experience with Bill.com.

• Familiarity with SPS Commerce and electronic data interchange (EDI) processes.

• Experience in dealing with wholesale customers, distributors, or B2B accounts.

• Understanding of CPG sales channels, deductions, chargebacks, distributor remittances, and associated accounting processes.

• Intermediate proficiency in Excel, including VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, SUMIFS, and IF functions.

• Strong attention to detail with an ability to identify and resolve accounting discrepancies.

• Capability to manage multiple clients, priorities, and deadlines effectively.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

• Comfortable with direct client communication and participation in client calls.

• Experience in CPG, food & beverage, consumer products, wholesale, or similar product-oriented businesses.

• Familiarity with key CPG retailers, distributors, and sales channels such as UNFI, KeHE, Target, Amazon Seller Central, and Shopify is advantageous.

• Required proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.

• Must be comfortable working in US time zones (EST, MST, CST, or PST hours).

• Must uphold confidentiality regarding client financial and business information.
