Senior Accountant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Assist with the month-end closing process by preparing journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and conducting related analyses for project accounting, inventory, fixed assets, and intercompany transactions.

• Contribute to the preparation of monthly reporting packages.

• Develop project revenue recognition in accordance with IFRS 15, which includes calculations for percentage-of-completion, deferred revenue, contract balance schedules, and WIP reports.

• Maintain project accounting for multi-year transit projects.

• Monitor costs against budget and assist project managers with estimate-at-completion reviews.

• Reconcile contract assets and liabilities.

• Account for hardware and spare inventory, overseeing cost flows into projects, perpetual-to-GL reconciliation, cycle counts, and year-end obsolescence reviews.

• Manage fixed asset accounting and keep detailed continuity schedules.

• Prepare and post intercompany transactions, along with completing month-end intercompany reconciliations.

• Prepare U.S. sales and use tax filings and handle 1099 reporting.

• Reconcile related accounts, resolve discrepancies, and support sales tax audits.

• Prepare balance sheet reconciliations using BlackLine.

• Create PBC schedules for year-end audits and quarterly reviews.

• Execute key controls as outlined in the Risk Control Matrix.

• Generate precise financial reports, project margin analyses, and other accounting documentation.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting (mandatory).

• CPA designation is preferred, or actively pursuing certification.

• 4–7 years of progressive accounting experience, encompassing full-cycle accounting and month-end closing.

• Familiarity with IFRS, especially IFRS 15 for revenue recognition over time and IFRS 16 for leases.

• Experience in project accounting and WIP on long-term, fixed-price, or milestone-based contracts.

• Proficiency in NetSuite; experience with SuiteProjects or ARM is advantageous.

• Experience with BlackLine and advanced Excel skills.

• Experience supporting a NetSuite implementation is preferred.

• Proven hands-on experience using AI tools like Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, or Claude in accounting tasks.

• Ability to leverage AI tools to automate or expedite month-end closures and tasks such as reconciliations, variance analysis, and journal entry support, while ensuring proper review of AI-generated outputs.

• Experience in transit or transportation software is a plus.

• Background in inventory accounting within a hardware/software business is advantageous.
