Senior Accountant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop the accounting function, encompassing processes, controls, closing calendar, and organizational structure.

• Manage the entire monthly closing process and ensure timely, accurate results.

• Supervise and review journal entries, reconciliations, and accruals performed by bookkeepers.

• Oversee accounts payable and receivable, including vendor payments, customer collections, and aging accounts.

• Ensure data integrity between Shopify, Amazon, TikTok Shop, retail portals, and the general ledger.

• Create comprehensive inventory accounting for numerous SKUs, including landed costs, cost layers, and inventory roll-forward.

• Take ownership of the chart of accounts and accounting policies.

• Prepare financial statements and supporting documents while ensuring audit/review readiness.

• Manage US multi-state sales tax compliance, including nexus monitoring, registrations, and filings.

• Reconcile marketplace facilitator taxes and address notices and discrepancies.

• Oversee sales tax automation tools and collaborate with advisors.

• Handle Canadian GST/HST and European EU VAT compliance during international expansion.

• Assist with partnership income tax processes, including K-1s, relevant form filings, supporting documents, and partner capital account data.

• Ensure accurate, timely, and audit-ready tax reporting at the partner level.

• Support financial planning and analysis, budgets, rolling forecasts, and variance analysis.

• Take responsibility for daily and weekly cash flow reporting.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience.

• Proven hands-on management of a monthly closing process.

• Experience in overseeing or reviewing the work of bookkeepers or junior staff.

• Strong foundation in US GAAP.

• Experience with US multi-state sales tax compliance, including nexus issues, registrations, filings, and marketplace facilitator reconciliations.

• Practical experience in accounts payable and receivable, including collections and aging management.

• Some experience with US partnership income tax, including K-1s and related form filings.

• Proficient in QuickBooks; QuickBooks Online preferred.

• Comfortable working with data from Shopify, Amazon, and TikTok Shop and reconciling platform data with accounting records.

• Regular use of AI tools like ChatGPT or Claude in daily accounting tasks, with the ability to verify outputs.

• Excellent written communication skills.

• CPA or equivalent certification is preferred.

• Experience in consumer products, home goods, or the e-commerce/retail industry is preferred.

• Familiarity with Avalara or TaxJar is advantageous.

• Experience managing bookkeeping or outsourced accounting providers is preferred.

• Knowledge of BI and data tools such as Power BI, SQL, and advanced Excel is preferred.

• Exposure to international VAT/GST and multi-currency environments is a plus.

• Working knowledge of forecasting and budgeting is preferred.

• Ability to thrive in a lean, fast-paced environment is preferred.
