Senior Accountant – Accounting Team Lead

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Philippines, +6 more countries.

📋 Description

• Review and authorize monthly financial reports for roughly 60 clients.

• Validate balance sheet schedules along with supporting documentation.

• Detect and resolve discrepancies in reconciliations, coding, and general ledger activities.

• Oversee month-end closing progress and follow up on any outstanding items.

• Ensure that financial records are complete, accurate, and submitted on time.

• Lead and manage 2–3 junior accountants.

• Mentor team members on technical accounting, processes, quality standards, and professional judgment.

• Allocate client workloads based on complexity, capacity, and accountant familiarity.

• Establish ownership of preparer/reviewer roles for engagements.

• Coordinate operational activities from post-onboarding through the monthly closing period.

• Follow up on uncategorized transactions and any missing documentation.

• Manage out-of-scope requests and escalations in collaboration with the owner.

• Assist the owner by ensuring financials are reviewed and prepared for client meetings.

• Document processes through standard operating procedures (SOPs), Loom walkthroughs, and repeatable workflows.

• Identify bottlenecks and suggest improvements for workflows, controls, and systems.

• Participate in onboarding new clients and structuring team assignments.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience based in the U.S.

• Proven experience in leading, mentoring, or supervising accountants.

• Strong working knowledge of Xero.

• In-depth understanding of full-cycle bookkeeping, month-end closing, reconciliations, and balance sheet reviews.

• Ability to work during U.S. business hours, with a strong preference for Central Time.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

• Strong professional judgment with the ability to identify errors, prioritize issues, and work independently.

• Capacity to manage multiple client engagements and competing deadlines in a remote setting.

• Proficiency in QuickBooks Online is preferred.

• CPA license or equivalent accounting credential is preferred.

• Experience with U.S.-based virtual accounting, bookkeeping, or BPO firms is preferred.

• Familiarity with platforms such as Double, Keeper, or similar is preferred.

• Experience in client onboarding, engagement scoping, or pricing is preferred.

• Experience across various industries is preferred.

• Experience in documenting accounting processes through SOPs, Loom, or similar tools is preferred.

• Full-time exclusivity; candidates must not engage in other part-time or freelance work upon hiring.
