Security Research Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.

• Assess global products and services to pinpoint security vulnerabilities, weaknesses, and areas for enhancement.

• Embrace an attacker mindset and utilize specialized tools and techniques to mimic real-world threats.

• Independently or collaboratively research emerging security topics.

• Create new security tools and concepts through Cisco’s “Free Friday” innovation and incubation initiative.

• Provide highly secure solutions that meet the requirements of critical global clients.

• Engage with Cisco engineering teams across the organization.

⛳️ Requirements

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field with security research or project experience, or a Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years of relevant security experience.

• A minimum of 2 years in red teaming or penetration testing.

• Proficiency with remote access, network penetration, Command and Control development and utilization, and covert channels in cloud environments.

• At least 4 years of experience with Unix, including relevant academic experience.

• Practical experience with AI/ML frameworks and offensive security tools.

• Must be a U.S. Person: U.S. citizen, U.S. national, lawful permanent resident, asylee, or refugee.

• Eligibility to work in U.S. Government classified environments.

• Certain tasks must be executed by a U.S. citizen on U.S. soil.

• Preferred: Experience in DevOps engineering.

• Preferred: Offensive security testing experience with web applications, APIs, user interfaces, mobile devices, and embedded devices.

• Preferred: Comprehensive experience in full-spectrum red-team tactics.

• Preferred: Background in a SOC, SRE, or incident response role.

• Preferred: Capacity to work collaboratively within a diverse, high-energy research team.

• Preferred: Outstanding communication skills for effective interaction with engineering teams.

• Preferred: Ability to adapt to emerging technologies and changing security landscapes.
