SBU Engineering Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Manage the balance between business partnership, leadership of personnel, and engineering execution within the designated Strategic Business Unit (SBU).

• Direct the SBU engineering team to achieve safe, dependable, cost-effective, and scalable engineering results.

• Collaborate with SBU and functional leaders to align business strategy with engineering priorities, investments, and capabilities.

• Contribute to the formulation of SBU strategy, capital planning, and operational priorities.

• Convert business requirements into engineering roadmaps, capital plans, and resource strategies.

• Participate in and lead strategic planning for the SBU, region, and enterprise.

• Cultivate cross-functional relationships with Operations, Maintenance, EH&S, Finance, Supply Chain, and other support functions.

• Mentor, coach, and develop the SBU engineering team.

• Set expectations, performance objectives, and development plans.

• Oversee staffing, onboarding, training, performance management, and colleague engagement initiatives.

• Supervise plant facilities, equipment, tooling, automation, and machine standards.

• Oversee the design, development, acquisition, installation, maintenance, and upgrades of engineering projects.

• Lead significant SBU, regional, and network engineering projects.

• Track engineering KPIs, project performance, and capital expenditures; implement corrective actions and promote continuous improvement.

• Manage the execution of the SBU engineering budget, variance management, and financial forecasting in collaboration with Finance.

• Support initiatives related to Maintenance Excellence and Lean Manufacturing.

• Coordinate with external engineering partners, suppliers, and contractors.

• Ensure compliance with equipment safety standards in collaboration with EH&S.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Engineering is required.

• Over 10 years of experience in engineering and project management within a manufacturing setting.

• More than 5 years of experience in leading engineers or technical teams.

• Proven experience in overseeing cross-functional initiatives and capital programs.

• Strong leadership skills with a track record of developing technical talent and future leaders.

• Capability to balance business strategy, personnel leadership, and functional execution.

• Extensive knowledge in project and capital management.

• Familiarity with lean manufacturing, maintenance excellence, and process improvement methodologies.

• Financial proficiency including budgeting, forecasting, and capital justification.

• Excellent communication, presentation, and influencing abilities.

• Competency in building trust and alignment across functional and organizational divisions.

• Proficient in MS Office Suite.

• Willingness to travel extensively as needed, up to 50%, which may involve uneven distribution and potentially short notice.
