
Sales Representative, DMV Region – Washington, D.C., Maryland & Northern Virginia

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland, +2 more states.
• Provide support for a key higher education territory throughout the DMV region.
• Create and implement account strategies across university campuses.
• Enhance Avantor's footprint and promote revenue growth.
• Foster strong relationships with researchers, lab managers, procurement teams, department leaders, and university stakeholders.
• Identify and pursue opportunities for competitive conversions, contract utilization, and new revenue streams.
• Analyze customer purchasing patterns and account data to reveal growth opportunities.
• Develop and sustain a strong sales pipeline through effective territory planning and customer engagement.
• Comprehend customer challenges and propose solutions that align with research and operational goals.
• Collaborate with internal experts and business partners to provide an exceptional customer experience.
• Utilize manufacturer partnerships for product education, promotions, and growth initiatives.
• Assist in onboarding new labs, researchers, and programs.
• Maintain precise CRM records and assist with reporting, forecasting, and account planning.
• Regularly engage with customers across Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginia.
• Represent Avantor as a reliable partner in an academic research setting.
• A college degree or equivalent relevant experience.
• 2-5 years of experience in a complex sales environment is preferred.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites at least 4 days a week.
• A valid driver's license is required.
• Experience in a laboratory, research, scientific, higher education, or distribution setting is advantageous.
• A Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline is preferred.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Capability to engage in business conversations with owners and decision-makers.
• Ability to work independently and effectively manage time and territory.
• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to sell strategically within an account.
• Understanding of individual customer operations.
• Comfortable with CRM systems, Excel, and other tools for managing pipelines, tracking activities, and analyzing account performance.
• Relationship-oriented, energized by building trust with researchers, lab managers, procurement teams, department leaders, and other university stakeholders.
• Customer-focused, with genuine curiosity about researcher needs, laboratory workflows, and institutional priorities.
• Commercially minded, interested in growing business and identifying opportunities within existing accounts.
• Strategic thinker capable of using data and insights to prioritize opportunities and develop action plans.
• Consultative in approach, assisting customers in identifying solutions.
• Creative and proactive in generating engagement opportunities and discovering new business.
• Organized, self-motivated, and able to juggle multiple priorities.
• Strong communicator who collaborates effectively with customers, manufacturers, and internal teams.
• Resilient and adaptable in navigating challenges, competition, and changing customer needs.
• Must reside in close proximity to the DMV area.
