This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Slovenia.
• Take ownership of the safety of robotic cells as a product, from the initial design phase to deployment at customer sites.
• Establish the safety concept for the cell platform, identifying hazards and safety functions that are assessed once versus those requiring application-specific modifications.
• Contribute safety insights to robotics software starting from the first design review.
• Outline safety requirements in both product and application requirement documents.
• Approve each solution design.
• Specify and validate functional safety functions within safety PLCs and robot safety controllers.
• Prepare risk assessments, the CE technical file, and the Declaration of Conformity for each robotic cell.
• Assist in transitioning to the new EU Machinery Regulation.
• Define site safety measures for deployments, covering layout, guarding, operator access, and acceptance-test safety checks.
• Set rules for the safe testing of cells in R&D, including the implementation of Reduced Safety Mode.
• Investigate the root causes of safety faults and incidents.
• Develop safety content for cell manuals and address customer safety inquiries during the presales phase.
• Collaborate with product, robotics, software, mechanical, forward-deployed, and commercial teams.
• Assume safety sign-off responsibilities for ongoing cell projects and monitor outstanding items.
• Ensure that safety recommendations influence application and software designs prior to construction.
• Enable new applications to require safety assessments solely for their specific changes.
• Minimum of five years of experience in machinery safety related to industrial machines or robotic cells.
• Proficiency in preparing or approving risk assessments and CE marking documentation.
• Experience in functional safety, specifically in specifying and validating safety functions on safety PLCs, robot safety controllers, and safety sensors such as radar, scanners, and light curtains.
• Familiarity with EU machinery law, including the updated Machinery Regulation.
• Knowledge of ISO 12100 for risk assessment and ISO 13849 for functional safety standards.
• Ability to read software designs and engage in discussions about algorithm behavior with robotics engineers.
• Experience in making safety-related decisions where no standard directly applies and documenting the rationale behind those decisions.
• Capability to maintain safety standards even under tight deadlines.
• Proficient written English communication skills.
• Willingness to travel approximately 25% of the time.
• A recognized machinery safety qualification, such as TÜV Functional Safety Engineer or CMSE, is a plus.
• Experience with collaborative or fenceless robot applications is advantageous.
• Familiarity with integrating safety into robot motion, control, or perception software is a benefit.
• Background in a machine-building or integrating environment that scaled from a few machines per year to dozens is beneficial.
• Ability to work remotely within three hours of Central European Time.
• Must travel to Ljubljana, Slovenia at least once per quarter.
• Must address eligibility to work in the EU or UK and any visa sponsorship requirements in the application.
• Option for remote work within three hours of Central European Time.
• Regular time spent at company facilities in Ljubljana and at customer sites.
• Opportunity to shape the company’s safety approach, policies, and platform safety concept.
• Work on innovative machines under evolving EU machinery regulations.
