Risk Officer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants anywhere in the world.

📋 Description

• Offer expert advice and support on donor assurance, risk reporting, risk evaluations, incident management, compliance, and risk-informed decision-making.

• Assist Country Offices in identifying, evaluating, monitoring, and escalating operational, fiduciary, programmatic, safeguarding, and contextual risks.

• Create, review, and enhance country Risk Assessment and Management Plans.

• Provide technical assistance on donor requirements, proposal development, accountability, transparency, risk mitigation, compliance monitoring, and performance reporting.

• Facilitate controls for beneficiary targeting, partner oversight, commodity and cash tracking, community feedback, safeguarding, anti-fraud, and anti-diversion initiatives.

• Support incident reporting, follow-up investigations, root cause analysis, corrective action tracking, and escalation processes.

• Conduct fraud risk assessments and ensure the implementation of mitigation strategies.

• Deploy for emergency responses, sudden-onset crises, and operational scale-ups to carry out rapid risk assessments and advise management accordingly.

• Aid in risk monitoring, assurance reviews, control assessments, partner oversight, third-party monitoring, and corrective actions stemming from audits and oversight activities.

• Provide guidance on safeguarding, PSEA, accountability to affected populations, community feedback, and protection considerations.

• Contribute to inter-agency coordination mechanisms and humanitarian coordination frameworks.

• Deliver coaching, training, and technical guidance to Risk Officers, Risk Focal Points, and Country Office teams.

• Assist in rapid needs assessments, early warning analysis, contingency planning, and activation processes.

• Analyze risk, monitoring, assessment, and operational data to pinpoint emerging risks and enhance accountability and assurance.

⛳️ Requirements

• Advanced University degree in business/public administration, finance, accounting, international development, audit, or a related field, OR a First University degree with additional years of relevant work experience and/or training in audit, performance and risk management, or related fields.

• Relevant postgraduate professional experience in risk management, audit, monitoring, and/or related areas.

• Strong background and interest in international humanitarian development.

• Fluency in English (level C).

• Intermediate proficiency (level B) in a second official UN language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, and/or Portuguese.

• Experience in enterprise risk management, internal controls, compliance, audit follow-up, or assurance functions.

• Background in supporting humanitarian field operations.

• Experience with monitoring systems, community feedback mechanisms, incident management processes, or follow-up on investigations.

• Knowledge of risk assessments, risk registers, incident management, and accountability frameworks.

• Familiarity with cash-based transfers, partner management, safeguarding/PSEA, fraud prevention, anti-corruption controls, and donor compliance requirements.

• Strong skills in stakeholder management, analytical thinking, facilitation, and reporting.

• Ability to rapidly deploy and operate in multicultural and high-pressure environments.
