This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.
• Evaluate the Italian Garden at the Codman Estate, focusing on the current state of plantings, masonry, and garden elements.
• Examine historical and modern records to produce existing-conditions reports and plans.
• Formulate historically accurate and environmentally conscious recommendations for preservation and restoration efforts.
• Create a practical maintenance strategy for the garden's upkeep.
• Analyze historical weather data associated with the Codman Estate.
• Generate a visual report that illustrates the effects of weather and climate change over time, paying particular attention to tree populations.
• Develop a plan for replacing the vulnerable Ash tree.
• Fulfill additional responsibilities and special projects that align with organizational objectives.
• Report directly to the Vice President of Property Care and Climate Action.
• Work collaboratively with the Property Care team, collections, visitor experience, and the Study Center Manager.
• Currently enrolled in or have completed a master’s degree program in a field relevant to the fellowship topic.
• Proficient in CAD or other design software programs.
• A strong passion for historic landscapes, along with knowledge of New England culture and history is preferred.
• Access to transportation and willingness to travel throughout the New England region.
• Residency in New England is required throughout the duration of the fellowship.
• A strong commitment to, and belief in, the mission of Historic New England.
• Flexible schedule to accommodate evening and weekend work as needed.
• Remote work arrangement.
• A term-limited fellowship lasting 10 months.
• Part-time work schedule totaling 24 hours per week.
• Flexible availability for evening and weekend assignments.
