This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Carry out the commissioning and testing of protection and control systems for electric utility substations and plant locations of customers.
• Conduct tests on Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs), SCADA systems, communication media, relays, meters, RTUs, DFRs, and other related intelligent logic devices.
• Make red-line adjustments to design documents throughout the entire drawing set, including Single Line, AC/DC Elementary, Wiring, Panel Arrangement, and Bill of Material/Material List.
• Execute end-to-end testing procedures.
• Perform IED testing both manually and using automated test sets such as Doble 6150, Omicron, and Manta.
• Recognize common risks associated with testing and commissioning systems and schemes.
• Create test plans, risk assessments, and practical applications for basic protection and control systems and schemes.
• Analyze project scope and drawing interpretations to develop comprehensive functional guidelines and risk assessments.
• Lead personnel and tasks within larger projects or offer technical and leadership guidance on clearly defined projects.
• Conduct weekly site safety inspections.
• Oversee the application of HP with Project Lead approval.
• Uphold the policies and procedures of both the company and the customer.
• An Associate’s degree from an accredited two-year technical college in Electrical Power & Controls (EPC), or an Electrical Engineering Degree from an ABET accredited institution is preferred.
• Equivalent experience and training from the military (Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, or Navy Nuke) is also acceptable.
• A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in relay testing and commissioning within substations is required.
• Experience in troubleshooting, testing, commissioning, maintaining, and operating electrical power systems, control systems, instrumentation, switchgear, or protective equipment in a military context can replace relay testing experience.
• Familiarity with using simple volt-ohm-meters and handling hand tools is necessary.
• Ability to read and interpret One Line, AC & DC Elementary, and Wiring diagrams is essential.
• Strong computer skills, including computer networking and proficiency with Android/iPhone apps.
• Proficiency in using the Microsoft Office suite of software.
• Experience in mapping drive letters for server connections is required.
• Familiarity with obtaining, installing, and connecting handheld device applications to ‘The Cloud’ or other specified locations is preferred.
• Capability to perform regular fieldwork in various environments, conditions, and weather conditions.
• A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is necessary.
• Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal, are essential.
