Registered Nurse Supervisor, Clinical Trauma Registry

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.

📋 Description

• Manage the daily operations of the Trauma Registry at Boston Medical Center’s Level I Adult Trauma Center.

• Supervise a team of five trauma registrars and oversee daily workflows.

• Ensure the accurate and timely abstraction of trauma data, along with ICD-10 coding, data entry, and report generation.

• Maintain the integrity of data through concurrent abstraction, validation, audits, and preparation for audits.

• Administer trauma registry software in collaboration with the vendor and BMC ITS.

• Implement updates from ACS, TQIP, NTDB, and Massachusetts DPH.

• Provide clinical expertise, staff training, and ongoing education regarding AIS and ICD-10-CM coding.

• Lead participation in TQIP and manage necessary educational activities.

• Support verification and designation activities for ACS and Massachusetts DPH trauma centers.

• Coordinate and facilitate the monthly Trauma Multidisciplinary Committee meetings.

• Prepare, analyze, and validate quarterly reports for TQIP and Massachusetts DPH.

• Create performance improvement reports for the Trauma Service, JCAHO, ACS, as well as state and national registries.

• Identify opportunities for database enhancements and collaborate with BMC IT, vendors, agencies, and EMS systems.

• Analyze trauma data in partnership with clinical teams to identify trends and inform performance improvement and operational decisions.

• Coordinate trauma registry data for grants, publications, injury prevention initiatives, and research projects.

• Represent the BMC Trauma Program at state, regional, and national conferences.

• Manage staff scheduling and handle time-off requests.

• Ensure compliance with HIPAA and BMC confidentiality standards while securely managing patient information.

• Undertake related duties to support operational, regulatory, and quality improvement efforts.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is required.

• Proficiency in medical terminology and anatomy is essential.

• A current Registered Nurse License from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is mandatory by the hire date.

• Certification as a Specialist in Trauma Registry (CSTR) must be obtained by the hire date.

• Certification as an Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS) is required by the hire date.

• Candidates must complete or have completed the American Trauma Society’s Trauma Registry Course or an equivalent within 12 months of hire.

• Candidates must complete or have completed the Association of the Advancement of Automotive Medicine’s Injury Scaling (AAIS) Course within 12 months of hire.

• Experience with ICD-10-CM inpatient coding is necessary.

• Proficiency in ICD-10, AAAM coding, AIS/ISS scoring, and TRISS scoring is required.

• Competency in PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Access, and Outlook is expected.

• Advanced knowledge of medical terminology is required.

• Advanced understanding of anatomy and physiology is essential.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary.

• Excellent time management and organizational skills are required.

• Demonstrated computer skills are important.

• Ability to multitask, prioritize, meet deadlines, and resolve complex work assignments is essential.

• Understanding of how errors can affect users, databases, and applications is required.
