This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Act as the subject matter expert on state regulations in the region, collaborating with Market Compliance Managers and key stakeholders.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Market Compliance Managers.
• Establish primary contacts with regulatory agencies, manage relationships, coordinate inspections, and respond to inquiries.
• Coordinate reporting and responses to regulators and senior leadership on significant regulatory issues.
• Formulate and implement regional compliance strategies that align with enterprise goals and regulatory mandates.
• Oversee compliance programs across retail and production operations; identify risks and propose solutions.
• Maintain regulatory frameworks that support licensing, product safety, environmental, and operational standards.
• Collaborate with Government Relations and Regulatory Affairs to monitor, interpret, and influence regulatory changes.
• Identify, create, and optimize policies, procedures, and compliance frameworks.
• Conduct risk assessments and develop corrective action plans.
• Support mergers, acquisitions, and expansions through regulatory and compliance evaluations and integration.
• Lead product commercialization efforts, including packaging/labeling reviews and regulatory submissions.
• Collaborate on regional compliance training initiatives.
• Prepare compliance reports, dashboards, KPIs, trends, risks, and strategic recommendations.
• Conduct periodic site visits, enforce accountability, and suggest continuous improvement measures.
• Execute other job-related responsibilities as assigned.
• Bachelor’s Degree or an advanced degree is preferred.
• At least 5 years of experience in a compliance, operations, or regulatory role within a highly regulated industry such as cannabis, pharmaceuticals, alcohol, or tobacco is preferred.
• A minimum of 3 years in a leadership or managerial position overseeing compliance programs.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic compliance initiatives across multiple locations.
• Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and experience interacting with government agencies.
• Exceptional communication and relationship-building abilities with both internal and external stakeholders.
• Unassailable integrity and ethical standards.
• Demonstrated executive presence, with the capacity to remain poised, professional, and decisive in high-pressure or complex situations.
• Proven capability to assess and prioritize risk levels, make informed decisions in stressful situations, and take calculated risks to achieve business goals without excessive reliance on legal or leadership guidance.
• Demonstrated ability to lead with empathy and integrity, while encouraging professional growth through mentorship and continuous learning opportunities.
• Willingness to travel up to 20%.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Must successfully complete all required background checks.
• Must comply with all legal or company regulations for working in the industry, including employee identification/badging requirements in the jurisdiction overseen.
