Regional Health, Safety, and Environmental Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North America.

📋 Description

• Lead the execution and ongoing enhancement of regional health, safety, and environmental initiatives across designated operations and geographical areas.

• Convert global HSE requirements, standards, and objectives into actionable regional programs.

• Provide leadership and direction for behavior-based safety initiatives, risk assessments, evaluations of non-routine tasks, and HSE policies and procedures.

• Conduct investigations into incidents and accidents, carry out root cause analyses, and create corrective and preventive action plans.

• Oversee and manage workers' compensation cases.

• Identify, develop, and disseminate HSE best practices throughout field operations.

• Deliver training, coaching, and support to enhance HSE awareness, accountability, and leadership.

• Create and uphold site-specific safety plans that align with company standards, customer demands, and regulatory requirements.

• Collaborate with operational leaders, field teams, customers, and stakeholders to identify hazards, evaluate risks, and implement mitigation strategies.

• Monitor, analyze, and report on HSE performance metrics.

• Support initiatives for transforming safety culture and act as a regional HSE subject matter expert.

• Fulfill departmental administrative duties and reporting obligations.

• Exhibit ethical conduct, integrity, professionalism, and RHI Magnesita's Growth Enabling Behaviors.

• Provide support for approximately 400 employees across North America in a field service context.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Safety, Environmental Science, Occupational Health, Engineering, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and HSE experience.

• Ability to influence, engage, and foster relationships across all levels of the organization.

• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

• Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and other business software applications.

• Excellent analytical, organizational, and time management abilities.

• Capability to manage multiple priorities and work efficiently both independently and in a collaborative team setting.

• Strong project management and leadership skills with a focus on results.

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in Health, Safety, and Environmental roles is preferred.

• Experience in supporting industrial services, manufacturing, construction, mining, metals, or heavy industrial environments is preferred.

• Prior experience conducting incident investigations and implementing corrective measures is preferred.

• Professional certifications such as CSP, ASP, CHST, OSHA certifications, or similar credentials are preferred.

• Proven success in influencing positive changes in safety culture and leading continuous improvement initiatives is preferred.

• Must be capable of sitting, standing, hearing, and seeing regularly.

• Frequently required to walk, write, and operate a computer.

• Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds.

• Ability to climb stairs and occasionally bend, carry, reach, push, and pull.

• Must be able to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms.

• May work in both indoor and outdoor settings.

• May be exposed to industrial environments with varying temperatures, cold conditions, noise, dust, and concrete work surfaces.

• Must be able to operate a computer and standard business technology.

• Travel to operational sites, customer locations, meetings, and training events is required as per business needs.
