Refund Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +12 more states.

📋 Description

• Conduct thorough reviews of patient accounts to identify overpayments and credit balances from both patients and insurance providers.

• Collaborate closely with insurance companies and internal billing teams to ensure accurate reconciliation of payments received.

• Assess and verify accounts in line with established program guidelines.

• Carry out data entry tasks, process payments, reconcile billing and invoices, verify balances, maintain patient records, and initiate refund requests.

• Recognize credit balances resulting from electronic or manual insurance overpayments, patient excess payments, and adjustments due to denials or contractual allowances.

• Investigate and resolve assigned credit balance accounts using ticketing systems, credit balance trackers, or email communication.

• Adjust patient and insurance payments recorded on patient accounts as necessary.

• Calculate, input, and amend contractual adjustments and patient discounts when required.

• Process refunds to both patients and insurance companies.

• Identify patterns and errors in posting and payer transactions.

• Manage phone inquiries from both internal and external parties regarding credit balances and refunds.

• Perform additional tasks as assigned.


⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of three years’ experience handling credit balances from electronic/manual EOBs, lockbox, and patient payments, or equivalent experience in patient accounting.

• At least three years’ experience in medical billing and processing refunds for insurance and/or patient accounts, or equivalent experience in patient accounting.

• Detail-oriented, self-driven, a problem solver, and a collaborative team member.

• Proficient in navigating multiple computer screens and browsers swiftly and accurately.

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced team environment.

• Committed to consistently exceeding company and customer expectations.

• Excellent communication abilities and a professional demeanor.

• High School diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.

• Must adhere to Envision’s Code of Conduct and Compliance Policies and participate in annual Compliance training.
