Refrigeration Project Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida.

📋 Description

• Assess commercial supermarket refrigeration systems, focusing primarily on parallel compression racks, for their condition, capacity, and efficiency due to remodeling-related modifications.

• Conduct surveys of existing systems and gather system architecture data, including model numbers, condition, and other relevant details.

• Execute refrigeration load calculations.

• Organize loads on suitable compressor suction groups.

• Determine compressor and condenser capacity and select new equipment when necessary.

• Size related piping, pressure-regulating valves, and additional components.

• Comprehend and specify alternative system types, including condensing units, distributed systems, and secondary pumped systems.

• Acquire knowledge and apply new system types such as CO2 transcritical systems.

• Create refrigeration designs that comply with relevant local and state codes, owner specifications, and design guidelines.

• Collaborate with project teams to discuss schedules, budgets, phasing, site concerns, and design review matters.

• Evaluate preliminary and final designs with other disciplines for functionality, clearances, and coordination.

• Maintain communication with clients.

• Conduct project quality assurance in collaboration with the technical manager or project engineer.

• Delegate tasks to engineering personnel and drafting technicians to ensure efficient project execution.

• Provide training to Engineering Interns (EITs) and mechanical/refrigeration designers.

• Review, approve, and take ownership of team members’ design work when necessary.

• Uphold high standards and maintain professional integrity while serving the interests of both the company and clients.

• Perform additional responsibilities as required.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of experience in refrigeration design.

• Professional Engineer license in good standing (preferred), or Engineer in Training (EIT) pursuing a Professional Engineer (PE) license.

• Alternatively, an associate degree with a minimum of 10 years of experience in refrigeration design, demonstrating the applicability of this experience to the job description.

• Strong knowledge of discipline-specific codes and other relevant building codes.

• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.

• Strong leadership skills.

• Ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

• Skills in active listening and critical thinking.

• Proficient in REVIT and AutoCAD software.

• Experience in researching and writing reports/opinions.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

• Exceptional time management skills.

• Capable of confident judgment and decision-making.

• Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods.

• Capacity to manage stressful situations, multitask, and work under time constraints.

• Willingness to work long hours when required.

• Ability to function in a typical office environment and occasionally outside of it.

• Availability to work overtime as needed.
