Reading Tutor

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +4 more states.

📋 Description

• Provide one-on-one tutoring to students in grades K–6 using OpenLiteracy's secure online platform.

• Implement the curriculum created by the OpenLiteracy team; no lesson planning is necessary.

• Conduct 25-minute tutoring sessions.

• Work consistently with the same students to foster trusting relationships.

• Balance direct reading instruction with engaging interactions with text.

• Integrate comprehension strategies throughout instruction to encourage rich, confident discussions at all reading levels.

• Ensure consistent availability for assigned students.

• Complete the application process, which includes teaching-focused questions and short video responses.

• Participate in a brief interview with a member of the hiring team.

• Undergo a criminal background check, FBI fingerprinting, and education verification.

• Join the talent pool and accept a placement when a suitable tutoring opportunity arises.

⛳️ Requirements

• Possess a current or expired K–6 teaching certification; must be able to provide a copy.

• Have K–6 classroom teaching experience with an emphasis on reading.

• Strong understanding of the Science of Reading, including phonics, structured literacy, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension instruction.

• Availability for at least 3 hours during peak hours, Monday–Thursday, between 10:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. ET, for a minimum of 4 days per week.

• Commitment to a minimum of 10 consistent hours each week.

• Must have U.S. work authorization.

• Must have a U.S. mailing address.

• Ability to receive payments via U.S. bank deposits.

• Reliable computer equipped with a camera and microphone.

• Access to high-speed internet.

• A quiet workspace is essential.

• TOEFL certification and substitute teaching licenses do not meet the certification requirement.

• Candidates based in California, Illinois, Massachusetts, New York, or New Jersey cannot be hired.

• Preferred: experience with Tier 3 reading intervention.

• Preferred: experience teaching English Learners.

• Preferred: experience in supporting students with reading disabilities.
