This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
β’ Evaluate HD map geospatial data, including lane geometry, road boundaries, intersections, signage, and lane connectivity, against internal quality standards and ground-truth sources.
β’ Conduct quality control (QC) on map features generated from LiDAR point clouds, aerial/satellite imagery, and data collected from vehicle sensors.
β’ Identify, document, and prioritize map defects, escalating safety-critical concerns to the mapping and autonomy engineering teams.
β’ Establish and refine QC metrics, sampling strategies, and audit workflows to assess and enhance map accuracy on a large scale.
β’ Collaborate with mapping vendors and internal teams to convey quality expectations and facilitate defect resolution.
β’ Analyze recurring defect trends and provide feedback to improve upstream map creation and annotation processes.
β’ Maintain documentation regarding QC procedures, edge cases, and specific map requirements for various regions/routes.
β’ Assist in readiness reviews for new lanes, corridors, or operational design domains prior to their launch.
β’ Work alongside engineering teams to develop customized QC workflows and optimize scalable mapping processes.
β’ A Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geomatics, Geography, Surveying, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
β’ 1β3 years of experience for QC Engineer I or 3β5 years for QC Engineer II in geospatial data QC, map production, GIS analysis, or a similar quality/annotation role.
β’ Proficiency with geospatial data formats (e.g., shapefiles, GeoJSON, KML) and coordinate/projection systems.
β’ Familiarity with GIS tools (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and/or LiDAR/point cloud viewers.
β’ Strong attention to detail with the ability to detect subtle spatial or geometric inconsistencies within large datasets.
β’ Ability to work with large datasets and establish repeatable, data-driven QC processes.
β’ Excellent written communication skills for documenting defects and QC standards for both technical and non-technical audiences.
β’ Capability to collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, operations, and third-party vendor teams.
β’ For QC Engineer II: Experience in designing or enhancing QC processes/tooling from scratch.
β’ For QC Engineer II: Proven experience in mentoring junior reviewers or leading vendor/annotator quality calibration sessions.
β’ For QC Engineer II: Experience in defining map quality metrics and reporting trends to engineering stakeholders.
β’ Background in HD mapping, especially in the context of autonomous vehicles or trucking.
β’ Familiarity with Lanelet2, OpenDRIVE, or OpenStreetMap.
β’ Experience using LiDAR point cloud processing/classification tools such as TerraScan, TerraSolid, or LP360.
β’ Scripting experience in Python or SQL for automating QC checks or constructing spatial queries, such as PostGIS.
β’ Experience in highway/interstate corridor mapping.
β’ Previous experience working with or managing outsourced/vendor annotation teams.
β’ Understanding of functional safety or quality standards such as ISO 26262 or ASPICE.
