QA Tester, Automation Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Design and implement functional, regression, integration, system, and end-to-end testing for Appian applications.

• Assess Appian interfaces, records, process models, business rules, reports, integrations, plugins, and custom components for accuracy.

• Convert requirements and acceptance criteria into comprehensive test cases and traceable test documentation.

• Generate and oversee test data across development, testing, staging, migration, and production-support environments.

• Record, prioritize, and monitor defects until resolution and retesting are completed.

• Assist in formal testing, user acceptance testing, and decisions regarding release readiness.

• Create, develop, execute, and sustain automated regression and integration test suites.

• Investigate failed automated tests to differentiate between application defects and issues related to test scripts, data, pipeline, and environment.

• Enhance unstable tests and boost the consistency and maintainability of automated execution.

• Embed automated testing into Jenkins or similar CI/CD pipelines.

• Manage automation code via Git or GitHub source-control workflows.

• Facilitate containerized test execution using Docker or equivalent technologies.

• Link automated test results with Jira, Xray, or similar test management tools.

• Examine source-to-target mappings, data transformation requirements, interface specifications, and business rules.

• Create and execute SQL queries to verify source and target data.

• Assess record counts, field values, relationships, statuses, dates, and calculated values pre- and post-migration or integration processes.

• Ensure data completeness, accuracy, uniqueness, referential integrity, and adherence to business rules.

• Assist in mock migrations, cutover activities, rollback testing, and post-migration validation.

• Confirm Appian reports, interfaces, records, and integrations with both migrated and integrated data.

• Engage in sprint planning, backlog refinement, release planning, quality reviews, and retrospectives.

• Provide updates on test execution, automation health, migration outcomes, defects, dependencies, and risks.

• Aid in establishing quality gates and exit criteria for application releases and migration events.

• Generate test summaries, reconciliation reports, defect metrics, and release-readiness documentation.

• Collaborate with Appian developers, database and integration engineers, business analysts, and project stakeholders involved in federal application modernization.


⛳️ Requirements

• At least two years of professional experience in software quality assurance, test automation, or test engineering.

• Practical experience in testing Appian applications or similar low-code enterprise platforms.

• Background in executing functional, regression, integration, system, and end-to-end testing.

• Experience in developing or maintaining automated testing frameworks.

• Proficient in SQL and relational databases.

• Familiarity with testing system integrations, database conversions, data migrations, or data-heavy applications.

• Capability to interpret source-to-target mappings, transformation rules, requirements, and acceptance criteria.

• Experience in managing defects and test execution using Jira, Xray, or similar tools.

• Knowledge of continuous integration pipelines and Git or GitHub workflows.

• Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, written, and verbal communication skills.

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

• Candidates must be able to pass a government background investigation and fulfill public trust requirements.

• US Citizenship or US Green Card is mandatory.

• Preferred: four or more years of experience in software quality assurance, automated testing, or test engineering.

• Preferred: experience in Appian testing, including records, process models, interfaces, integrations, plugins, and custom components.

• Preferred: familiarity with FitNesse for Appian or another Appian test-automation tool.

• Preferred: experience with Ruby, JRuby, Java, Python, or a similar automation language.

• Preferred: experience in creating automated SQL-based reconciliation or data-quality tests.

• Preferred: experience in supporting migration rehearsals, production cutovers, rollback testing, and post-deployment validation.

• Preferred: exposure to Jenkins, Docker, RubyMine, AWS-hosted environments, or similar technologies.

• Preferred: knowledge of federal system testing, documentation, security, and release-management requirements.
