Public Health Data Analyst III

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Provides expertise in data analysis and public health to support the CDC’s National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN), concentrating on antimicrobial use and resistance.

• Oversees complete analytic workflows, which involve accessing, integrating, cleaning, transforming, and analyzing data from diverse sources using Python and R.

• Utilizes statistical and analytic methods while interpreting and summarizing results.

• Evaluates and monitors data quality, identifies anomalies and quality concerns, and creates automated, reproducible quality-control processes.

• Performs clinical and operational analyses utilizing HL7 FHIR-based data.

• Assesses FHIR–EHR mapping, patient-identity matching, encounter reconciliation, and clinical-data standardization through FHIR and other healthcare terminologies.

• Analyzes client requirements and translates them into formal analytic, data, or system specifications.

• Tests applications, resolves issues, and offers actionable feedback to software developers and quality-assurance teams.

• Keeps abreast of current public health practices and relevant industry advancements.

• Collaborates with both internal and external stakeholders to plan, develop, and execute projects and related materials.

• Communicates analytic insights, recommendations, and statistical methodologies to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Designs and delivers training sessions, project updates, and presentations pertaining to NHSN's antimicrobial use and resistance initiatives.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, or a related discipline, along with a minimum of nine years of relevant experience; or a master’s degree in one of these fields with at least seven years of relevant experience.

• Proficient in using Python or R for data importation, manipulation, and analytical tasks.

• Experienced in managing large datasets, transferring and merging files across different platforms, cleaning and aggregating data, and conducting quality control.

• Familiar with quality-assurance testing or user-acceptance testing involving healthcare data.

• Exceptional attention to detail and strong critical-thinking capabilities.

• If necessary for the project, must be able to successfully complete and obtain a federal Position of Public Trust Level 5 background investigation, meet all eligibility requirements, and maintain the necessary clearance throughout employment.

• Candidate must be a resident of the United States.

• Preferred: Master’s degree in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, or a similar area.

• Preferred: Experience with SAS, R, and Python.

• Preferred: Background in antimicrobial use, antimicrobial resistance, and/or data related to healthcare-associated infections.

• Preferred: Familiarity with NHSN.

• Preferred: Experience in real-world analysis and mapping of HL7 FHIR, including the normalization and standardization of clinical data.

• Preferred: Experience analyzing extensive, complex healthcare datasets, such as patient-identity matching across clinical systems, encounter reconciliation, longitudinal record construction, and deduplication.
