Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner – PMHNP

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Deliver care to adolescents and adults, or across the lifespan, as assigned.

• Evaluate patients' mental and physical conditions based on their presenting symptoms and complaints.

• Identify psychiatric disorders and mental health conditions.

• Differentiate between physiologically- and psychologically-based disorders and make appropriate diagnoses.

• Provide individual psychotherapy for chronic or acute mental disorders.

• Order necessary diagnostic tests such as EKGs and laboratory work.

• Prescribe psychotropic medications, including controlled substances, while educating patients on associated risks, benefits, and side effects.

• Monitor medication use, side effects, and treatment outcomes.

• Assess patient behavior and their response to treatment.

• Verbally deescalate challenging patients when required.

• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to formulate, execute, and assess treatment plans.

• Inform patients and their families about mental health conditions, treatment strategies, and medications.

• Record medical and psychological histories, assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, prescriptions, and outcomes.

• Complete administrative patient-care documentation, including FMLA and other approved forms.

• Schedule and coordinate follow-up appointments and ongoing treatment.

• Conduct patient visits and maintain accurate documentation in the EHR.

• Adhere to HIPAA regulations, 42 CFR Part 2, national care standards, and internal policies.

• Consult recommended references and seek clinical guidance from the Clinical Director and/or Medical Director.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner.

• Must currently possess a Board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner license (PMHNP).

• Experience in Addiction and Mental Health is essential.

• Willingness to obtain additional state licenses is required.

• Experience with Motivational Interviewing is a plus.

• Commitment to partnering with clients to reach their goals.

• Experience working with adults requiring general mental health and/or severe mental illness (SMI) treatment.

• Comfort and experience working with patients across the lifespan (ages 13 and up).

• Strong knowledge of mental health diagnoses and/or dual diagnoses involving substance abuse.

• Proficient in treatment planning.

• Ability to perform and apply comprehensive assessments.

• Timely and high-quality documentation skills; experience with EHR systems is necessary.

• Adaptability to technology, including telehealth software; comfort with video communication is expected.

• Knowledge of and compliance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 regulations.

• Must be eligible to work in the United States; no visa sponsorship or assistance with work eligibility will be provided.

• For clinicians with a Florida or New York license, an active DEA registration is required and must be obtained and maintained by the clinician.

• Proficiency in Spanish and prior experience in telehealth or Community Mental Health is preferred.
