Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner – PMHNP

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Deliver care to adolescent and adult patients, or across the lifespan, as assigned.

• Evaluate patients’ mental and physical conditions based on presenting symptoms and complaints.

• Identify and diagnose psychiatric disorders and mental health conditions.

• Differentiate between physiologically- and psychologically-based disorders and provide appropriate diagnoses.

• Conduct individual psychotherapy for both chronic and acute mental disorders.

• Order necessary diagnostic tests such as EKGs and lab work.

• Prescribe psychotropic medications, including controlled substances, and inform patients about risks, benefits, and side effects.

• Oversee medication usage, side effects, and treatment outcomes.

• Assess patient behavior and their responses to treatment.

• Effectively manage challenging patients and verbally de-escalate situations when required.

• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to create, implement, and assess treatment plans.

• Provide education to patients and their families regarding mental health conditions, treatment plans, and medications.

• Record medical and psychological histories, assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, prescriptions, and results.

• Complete administrative patient-care documentation, including FMLA and other approved forms.

• Schedule and coordinate follow-up appointments and ongoing treatment requirements.

• Conduct patient visits and ensure accurate documentation within the EHR.

• Operate in accordance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, national standards of care, and internal policies.

• Utilize recommended resources and seek clinical guidance from the Clinical Director and/or Medical Director.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years experience working as a Nurse Practitioner.

• Current Board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner license (PMHNP) is required.

• Experience in Addiction and Mental Health is necessary.

• Open to pursuing additional state licenses.

• Experience with Motivational Interviewing is preferred.

• Ability to work collaboratively with clients to meet their goals.

• Experience working with adults requiring general mental health and/or severe mental illness (SMI) treatment.

• Comfort and experience working with patients across the lifespan (ages 13 years and older).

• Knowledge of mental health diagnoses and/or dual-diagnoses related to substance abuse.

• Proficient in treatment planning.

• Capable of conducting and utilizing comprehensive assessments.

• Timely and quality documentation; experience with electronic health records (EHRs) is essential.

• Comfortable using technology, including telehealth software and video communication.

• Awareness of and adherence to HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 regulations.

• Must be eligible to work in the United States; no visa sponsorship or work eligibility assistance is available.

• For clinicians with a Florida or New York license, an active DEA registration is mandatory and must be obtained and maintained by the clinician.
