Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner – PMHNP

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Evaluate the mental and physical health status of adolescent and adult patients based on their presenting symptoms and complaints.

• Identify and diagnose psychiatric disorders and mental health conditions.

• Differentiate between physiologically-based and psychologically-based disorders and provide appropriate diagnoses.

• Provide individual psychotherapy for both chronic and acute mental health disorders.

• Order necessary diagnostic tests, including EKGs and laboratory work.

• Prescribe psychotropic medications, including controlled substances, while informing patients about the associated risks, benefits, and side effects.

• Monitor the usage of medications, side effects, and treatment outcomes.

• Assess patient behavior and their responses to treatment.

• Effectively de-escalate challenging patient situations when required.

• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to create, implement, and assess treatment plans.

• Inform patients and their families about mental health conditions, treatment strategies, and medications.

• Maintain comprehensive documentation of medical and psychological histories, physical assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, prescriptions, and outcomes.

• Complete necessary administrative documentation, including FMLA and Brave-approved forms.

• Arrange and coordinate follow-up appointments and ongoing treatment requirements.

• Finalize patient visits and ensure accurate documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).

• Adhere to HIPAA regulations, 42 CFR Part 2, national care standards, and internal policies.

• Seek clinical guidance from the Clinical Director and/or Medical Director as needed.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner.

• Currently possesses a Board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner license (PMHNP).

• Background in Addiction and Mental Health.

• Willingness to pursue additional state licensures.

• Experience with Motivational Interviewing.

• Commitment to partnering with clients to achieve their goals.

• Proven experience working with adults needing general mental health and/or severe mental illness (SMI) treatment.

• Comfortable working with patients across various age groups (ages 13 and older).

• Knowledgeable about mental health diagnoses and/or dual diagnoses related to substance abuse.

• Proficient in treatment planning.

• Capable of conducting and utilizing comprehensive assessments.

• Timely and high-quality documentation skills; experienced with EHR systems.

• Adaptable to technology, including telehealth software, and comfortable with video communication.

• Understanding of and compliance with HIPAA regulations and 42 CFR Part 2.

• Eligibility to work in the United States; must have unrestricted work authorization without the need for visa sponsorship or renewal.

• For clinicians licensed in Florida or New York, an active DEA registration is required and must be maintained by the clinician.

• Spanish-speaking proficiency is preferred; proficiency in additional languages is a plus.

• Previous experience with telehealth is preferred.

• Experience in the Community Mental Health sector is also preferred.
