Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner – PMHNP

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Deliver care to adolescent and adult patients, or across the lifespan, as assigned.

• Evaluate patients’ mental and physical conditions based on their presenting symptoms and complaints.

• Identify and diagnose psychiatric disorders and mental health issues.

• Differentiate between physiologically- and psychologically-based disorders and make appropriate diagnoses.

• Provide individual psychotherapy for both chronic and acute mental health disorders.

• Request diagnostic tests such as EKGs and lab work.

• Prescribe psychotropic medications, including regulated substances, while educating patients about their risks, benefits, and side effects.

• Oversee medication usage, side effects, and treatment outcomes.

• Assess patient behavior and response to treatments.

• Verbally de-escalate challenging patients when necessary.

• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to create, implement, and evaluate treatment plans.

• Educate patients and their family members regarding mental health conditions, treatment strategies, and medications.

• Document medical and psychological histories, assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, prescriptions, and outcomes.

• Complete administrative documentation, including FMLA and other approved forms.

• Schedule and coordinate follow-up appointments and ongoing treatment requirements.

• Conduct patient visits and ensure accurate documentation in the EHR.

• Adhere to HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, national standards of care, and internal policies.

• Utilize recommended references and consult with the Clinical Director and/or Medical Director for clinical guidance as necessary.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner.

• Currently possesses a Board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner license (PMHNP).

• Experience in Addiction and Mental Health.

• Open to acquiring additional state licenses.

• Familiarity with Motivational Interviewing.

• Willingness to collaborate with clients to reach their goals.

• Experience working with adults requiring general mental health and/or severe mental illness (SMI) treatment.

• Experience and comfort working with patients across the lifespan (ages 13 and older).

• Knowledge of mental health diagnoses and/or dual-diagnoses related to substance abuse.

• Proficient in treatment planning.

• Ability to conduct and apply comprehensive assessments.

• Timely and quality documentation; experienced with EHRs.

• Adaptable to technology, including telehealth software; comfortable with video communication.

• Understanding and compliance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.

• Eligible to work in the United States; no visa sponsorship or assistance with work eligibility available.

• For clinicians with a Florida or New York license, an active DEA registration is required and must be obtained and maintained by the clinician.

• Proficiency in Spanish is preferred; proficiency in other languages is an advantage.

• Previous experience in telehealth is preferred.

• Prior experience within the Community Mental Health sector is preferred.
