Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, PMHNP

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Evaluate the mental and physical health of patients based on their symptoms and concerns.

• Deliver care to adolescent and adult patients, or throughout the lifespan, as assigned.

• Identify and diagnose psychiatric disorders and mental health conditions.

• Differentiate between physiologically-based and psychologically-based disorders and diagnose accurately.

• Conduct individual psychotherapy for both chronic and acute mental health issues.

• Order necessary diagnostic tests, including EKGs and laboratory work.

• Prescribe psychotropic medications, including controlled substances, while educating patients on risks, benefits, and side effects.

• Monitor the use of medications, side effects, and treatment outcomes.

• Assess patient behavior and their response to treatment.

• Utilize verbal de-escalation techniques for challenging patients when required.

• Collaborate with members of an interdisciplinary team on treatment strategies.

• Provide education to patients and their families regarding mental health conditions, treatment approaches, and medications.

• Maintain comprehensive documentation of medical and psychological histories, assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, prescriptions, and outcomes.

• Complete necessary administrative patient care documentation, including FMLA and Brave-approved forms.

• Schedule and organize follow-up appointments and ongoing treatment.

• Conduct patient visits and ensure accurate documentation in the EHR.

• Adhere to HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, national care standards, and internal policies.

• Seek clinical guidance from recommended references and Clinical and/or Medical Directors.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner.

• Currently possesses a Board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner license (PMHNP).

• Experience in Addiction and Mental Health is required.

• Willingness to obtain additional state licenses.

• Experience with Motivational Interviewing.

• Required experience in treating adults with general mental health needs and/or severe mental illness (SMI).

• Comfortable working with patients across the lifespan (ages 13 and older).

• Familiarity with mental health diagnoses and/or dual-diagnoses related to substance abuse.

• Competence in treatment planning.

• Ability to conduct and apply comprehensive assessments.

• Experience with timely and high-quality documentation; familiarity with EHRs.

• Adaptable to technology, including telehealth software, and comfortable with video communication.

• Knowledge of and compliance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 regulations.

• Eligibility to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship or assistance for work eligibility.

• For clinicians with a Florida or New York license, an active DEA registration is mandatory and must be maintained by the clinician.

• Proficiency in Spanish is preferred; knowledge of additional languages is a plus.

• Previous experience in telehealth is preferred.

• Prior experience in the Community Mental Health sector is preferred.
