Protection & Controls Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Wisconsin.

📋 Description

• Develop substation drawing packages that encompass one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, DC schematics, wiring layouts, cable schedules, component arrangements, electrical plans, and intricate assembly drawings.

• Utilize AutoCAD and MicroStation for drafting purposes.

• Conduct fault analysis and coordination studies.

• Establish SCADA configurations and settings for station relays.

• Analyze customer specifications to deliver compliant designs.

• Grasp the theories and fundamentals of electrical circuits and associated components.

• Verify protection and control wiring diagrams against schematic diagrams using check/yellow-line methods.

• Generate control panel and field equipment wiring diagrams derived from schematic diagrams.

• Formulate project-specific protection and control schematic diagrams based on standard customer schematics.

• Create protection and control schematic diagrams from one-line diagrams.

• Revise and update existing customer substation legacy Brownfield schematic and wiring diagrams.

• Work collaboratively with designers and engineers to address technical challenges.

• Oversee project management tasks and lead small projects independently.

• Advocate for process enhancements.

• Engage with customers roughly 10% of the time.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.

• At least one year of experience related to Transmission and Distribution Protection and Control.

• Familiarity with Microprocessor Based Protection and Control Relays.

• Understanding of RS-232/RS485/Fiber optic/Ethernet Communication protocols.

• Knowledge of RTU Equipment, HMI, and SCADA Systems.

• Proficient in the MS Office Suite.

• Excellent attention to detail.

• Working knowledge of transmission and distribution protection and control schematic and wiring diagrams.

• Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

• P.E. license or being on the P.E. track is preferred.
