Property Adjuster – Northern Shenandoah Valley

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Exercise independent judgment and discretion in managing various types of property claims.

• Support or represent the claims supervisor when necessary.

• Carry out investigations, conduct interviews, and assess damages at sites within the designated territory.

• Prepare estimates, provide recommendations, address coverage inquiries, and manage litigation.

• Establish and maintain reserves; review reports and related documents; guide experts; determine coverage and claim value; issue or deny payments; negotiate claims with plaintiff attorneys when needed.

• Document claim files and file reports for closure.

• Identify subrogation situations and take appropriate actions.

• Manage the assigned territory and ensure claims are resolved.

• Collaborate with agents and district sales managers on relevant issues.

• Represent the company in legal proceedings when needed.

• Complete industry-related training and participate in ongoing training regarding policy changes, interpretations, and legislation.

• Assist in mentoring new claims adjusters.

• Join the Catastrophe Team when required.

⛳️ Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent is required for Property Adjuster Trainee.

• A bachelor's degree is preferred for Property Adjuster Trainee.

• Property Adjuster I: High School Diploma or GED and two years of claims handling experience, or equivalent is required; or High School Diploma or GED with successful completion of ERIE-sponsored formal education; or a bachelor's degree is required.

• Property Adjuster II: High School Diploma or GED and five years of claims handling experience, or equivalent is required; or a bachelor's degree with two years of claims handling experience, or equivalent is required.

• Must reside in the assigned territory unless a change is approved by the company.

• Capability to drive and travel regularly within the assigned territory.

• Required to serve on the Catastrophe Team, which may involve short-notice travel to other locations for periods exceeding two consecutive weeks.

• Willingness to obtain and maintain any necessary licenses.

• Successful completion of the Associate in Claims (AIC) program is preferred.

• A valid driver's license and a good driving record are required.

• Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is mandatory.

• Ability to lift over 50 lbs with the aid of lifting equipment.

• Capability to climb and access heights.

• Proficient in manual keying, data entry, and computer use.
