Property Adjuster – Hanover, Goochland, Cumberland

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Exercise independent judgment and discretion in managing property claims within the assigned authority.

• Manage the designated area and ensure claims are resolved efficiently.

• Communicate with policyholders regarding their property claims.

• Conduct investigations and interview insured parties and witnesses.

• Assess damages and create estimates.

• Evaluate claims coverage and provide coverage recommendations.

• Process claims within designated authority; establish and maintain appropriate reserves.

• Collect and review reports, statements, records, and related materials.

• Determine claim payments and issue checks or decline payments as necessary.

• Maintain documentation for claim files and submit final reports for closure.

• Recognize subrogation opportunities and initiate the necessary actions.

• Collaborate with agents and district sales managers.

• Address claims involving damage or coverage; may negotiate with plaintiff attorneys or coordinate litigation with defense counsel.

• Develop and implement knowledge of property-claim estimating practices and procedures.

• Attend industry-related training sessions on policy changes, interpretation, and legislation.

• Successfully complete Technical Learning Center Training within the first year of employment.

• Participate in the Catastrophe Team as needed.

• Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.

⛳️ Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent is required for Property Adjuster Trainee.

• A Bachelor’s degree is preferred for Property Adjuster Trainee.

• Property Adjuster I: A High School Diploma or GED and two years of claims handling experience, or equivalent is required; or a High School Diploma or GED and successful completion of ERIE sponsored formal education; or a Bachelor’s Degree is required.

• Property Adjuster II: A High School Diploma or GED and five years of claims handling experience, or equivalent is required; or a Bachelor’s Degree and two years of claims handling experience, or equivalent is required.

• Must reside in the assigned territory unless a change is approved by the company.

• Ability to drive and travel regularly within the assigned territory.

• Must be available for catastrophe duty, including potential short-notice travel to other locations for more than two consecutive weeks.

• Willingness to pursue and complete Technical Learning Center Training is required.

• Successful completion of AIC 33 and AIC 35 is preferred.

• Willingness to obtain and maintain any necessary licenses.

• A valid driver’s license and a good driving record are required.

• Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required.

• Ability to lift over 50 lbs with the aid of lifting equipment.

• Capability to access heights.

• Frequent activities involving driving, lifting/moving, and computer/data-entry tasks.
