Property Adjuster – Chatham & Orange County

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.

📋 Description

• Exercise independent judgment or discretion in managing property claims within your designated authority.

• Serve the assigned territory and bring the designated claims to resolution.

• Communicate with policyholders regarding property claims.

• Conduct investigations, interview insured individuals and witnesses, assess damage, and prepare estimates.

• Evaluate and provide recommendations regarding claim coverage.

• Establish and maintain adequate reserves.

• Obtain and review reports, statements, records, and related documentation.

• Assess information to determine coverage and total claim value.

• Decide on payments and issue checks or deny payment as necessary.

• Document claim files and submit final reports for closure.

• Identify subrogation scenarios and initiate appropriate actions.

• Collaborate with agents and district sales managers.

• Address claims involving damage or coverage concerns.

• Manage litigated claims, including negotiations with plaintiff attorneys or coordinating litigation with defense counsel.

• Develop and apply knowledge of property-claim estimating practices and procedures.

• Attend industry-related training sessions on policy changes, interpretation, and legislation.

• Successfully complete Technical Learning Center Training within one year of hire.

• Participate in the Catastrophe Team when necessary.

• Complete a 15-week Property Adjuster Trainee program that includes classroom, hands-on, and field training in Erie, Pennsylvania and at the branch office.

⛳️ Requirements

• Property Adjuster Trainee: A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

• Property Adjuster I: A high school diploma or GED and two years of claims handling experience, or equivalent required; alternatively, a high school diploma or GED along with successful completion of ERIE-sponsored formal education; or a Bachelor’s Degree is required.

• Property Adjuster II: A high school diploma or GED and five years of claims handling experience, or equivalent required; alternatively, a Bachelor’s Degree and two years of claims handling experience, or equivalent required.

• The incumbent must reside in the assigned territory unless a change is approved by the company.

• Must be able to drive/travel regularly within the assigned territory.

• The position requires catastrophe duty, which may include short-notice travel to other locations for periods exceeding two consecutive weeks.

• Willingness to pursue and complete Technical Learning Center Training is required.

• Willingness to obtain and maintain any necessary licenses.

• A valid driver’s license and a good driving record are required.

• Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is mandatory.

• Ability to lift over 50 lbs using lifting aid equipment.

• Ability to climb and access heights is required.

• Regular and predictable attendance is mandatory.

• A Bachelor's degree is preferred for the Property Adjuster Trainee position.

• Successful completion of AIC 33 and AIC 35 is preferred.
