Property Adjuster

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.

📋 Description

• Exercise independent judgment and discretion when managing property claims within the assigned authority.

• Manage the designated territory and ensure the resolution of assigned claims.

• Communicate with policyholders regarding property claims.

• Conduct investigations, interview insured individuals and witnesses, assess damage, and prepare estimates.

• Evaluate claims and provide recommendations regarding coverage.

• Establish and maintain appropriate reserves.

• Obtain and review reports, statements, records, and relevant materials.

• Ascertain coverage and total claim value.

• Determine payments and issue checks or decline payments as necessary.

• Maintain documentation of claim files and submit final reports for closure.

• Recognize subrogation situations and initiate necessary actions.

• Collaborate with agents and district sales managers.

• Manage claims related to damage or coverage, including potentially litigated claims.

• Negotiate with plaintiff attorneys or coordinate litigation with defense counsel as necessary.

• Develop and apply knowledge of property-claim estimating practices and procedures.

• Attend industry-related training sessions on policy changes, interpretation, and legislation.

• Successfully complete Technical Learning Center Training within the first year of employment.

• Participate in the Catastrophe Team as needed.

• Complete a 15-week Property Adjuster Trainee program that includes classroom, hands-on, field, mentor, and supervisor training.

⛳️ Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent is required for the Property Adjuster Trainee role.

• A Bachelor's degree is preferred for the Property Adjuster Trainee position.

• For Property Adjuster I: A High School Diploma or GED with two years of claims handling experience, or equivalent, is required; alternatively, a High School Diploma or GED along with successful completion of ERIE sponsored formal education, or a Bachelor's Degree is required.

• For Property Adjuster II: A High School Diploma or GED with five years of claims handling experience, or equivalent, is required; or a Bachelor's Degree with two years of claims handling experience, or equivalent, is required.

• The incumbent must reside in the assigned territory unless a change is authorized by the company.

• Ability to drive and travel regularly within the assigned territory is required.

• Must be available for catastrophe duty, which may involve short-notice travel to other locations for periods exceeding two consecutive weeks.

• Willingness to pursue and complete Technical Learning Center Training is mandatory.

• Successful completion of AIC 33 and AIC 35 is preferred.

• Willingness to obtain and maintain any necessary licenses is required.

• A valid driver's license and a good driving record are mandatory.

• Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required.

• Ability to lift over 50 lbs with the use of lifting aid equipment is necessary.

• Capability to climb and access heights is required.

• Ability to frequently drive, lift/move items, and use a computer is necessary.
