Project Risk Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado.

📋 Description

• Oversee the regional risk management initiative for Volta’s North American portfolio.

• Develop uniform risk governance, standards, processes, methodologies, and requirements for escalation.

• Embed risk management within the entire project lifecycle and across Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Project Controls, Commercial, Commissioning, and Operations Readiness.

• Provide independent risk oversight and offer constructive challenges to project and functional leadership.

• Foster a proactive risk culture that emphasizes clear ownership, accountability, timely escalation, and risk-informed decision-making.

• Serve as the regional risk management subject matter expert, advising project, regional, and executive leadership.

• Lead the identification, assessment, mitigation, monitoring, escalation, and resolution of risks and opportunities.

• Create, manage, maintain, and supervise project risk registers.

• Evaluate EPC delivery risks encompassing design, permitting, utility interconnection, procurement, long-lead equipment, construction, commercial performance, commissioning, energization, and MW capacity delivery.

• Aggregate and assess project risks on a regional basis to identify emerging, systemic, correlated, and concentration risks.

• Conduct qualitative and quantitative cost and schedule risk analyses, including Monte Carlo simulations and schedule risk assessments.

• Evaluate cost exposure, schedule uncertainty, critical-path risks, milestones, and readiness-for-service dates.

• Formulate risk-based recommendations for project contingencies and management reserves.

• Analyze portfolio risk drivers, scenarios, sensitivities, and potential impacts.

• Provide risk analysis for investment decisions, stage gates, baseline approvals, major contract awards, and significant project choices.

• Generate executive project and regional reports, dashboards, and analytics.

• Monitor and report on mitigation progress, overdue actions, changes in exposure, realized risks, and escalation issues.

• Assist with project reviews, leadership meetings, investment decisions, and governance forums.

• Conduct regular project risk evaluations and health assessments.

• Test project assumptions, forecasts, contingency requirements, mitigation strategies, and confidence levels.

• Identify cross-project lessons learned and systemic vulnerabilities.

• Promote the ongoing enhancement of risk processes, methodologies, tools, analytics, reporting, and organizational capability.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Business, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant industry experience.

• Extensive experience in risk management, project controls, or project delivery within complex EPC, construction, infrastructure, energy, mission-critical, or major capital programs.

• Proven track record in leading project and portfolio risk management, including risk identification, assessment, mitigation, monitoring, escalation, and assurance.

• Strong understanding of cost, schedule, contingency, and project controls principles and their integration with project risk management.

• Experience in applying quantitative risk analysis and probabilistic techniques to assess project cost and schedule uncertainties.

• Advanced knowledge of Monte Carlo simulation, cost and schedule risk analysis, scenario analysis, and risk-based contingency development.

• In-depth understanding of EPC contracting, procurement, supply chain, change management, claims, and commercial risk.

• Established ability to influence and constructively challenge senior project and functional leaders within a complex, fast-paced project environment.

• Exceptional written, verbal, facilitation, and executive communication skills, with the capability to convert complex risk information into clear business insights and actionable recommendations.

• Ability to identify systemic and correlated risks across multiple projects and provide regional insights to aid management decision-making.

• Experience in delivering hyperscale, AI, mission-critical, or large-scale data center programs.

• Knowledge of power, cooling, utility interconnection, long-lead equipment, commissioning, and MW capacity delivery.

• Familiarity with enterprise or project risk management platforms and their integration with scheduling, cost management, and reporting systems.

• Relevant professional certification such as PMI-RMP, PMP, AACE, IRM, or equivalent risk/project management credential.

• Working understanding of ISO 31000, PMBOK, ISO 9001, ISO 45001, and ISO 14001.

• Experience presenting portfolio risk, contingency, schedule confidence, and emerging exposures to executive leadership and governance committees.

• Proficiency with @Risk, Riskonnect, SAFRAN, or other industry-standard software.
