Project Engineer II

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Assist in the initial design phase by developing preliminary PV layouts and stringing concepts using Helioscope and AutoCAD.

• Create CAD design outputs, including line-side tap detail drawings, in collaboration with the Engineering Director and field operations team on PE-stamped sets.

• Aid in revising drawing packages throughout the design and construction phases until achieving an approved-for-construction set.

• Manage submittals and RFIs utilizing Procore.

• Ensure procurement accuracy and facilitate vendor coordination in line with the construction schedule.

• Provide technical assistance for utility interconnection and AHJ permitting, including technical responses and the pathway to PTO.

• Contribute to Methods of Procedure (MOPs) for outage and tie-in tasks.

• Perform site visits to confirm installation adherence to IFC drawings and support teams at critical milestones.

• Assist in preparing pre-energization documentation in accordance with MARS Build Standards.

• Support the commissioning process, which includes DC string testing, IR survey coordination, and tracking deficiencies.

• Maintain as-built redlines in Procore and document concealed work before it is covered.

• Coordinate project closeout to meet the MARS “O&M Ready” standard, including complete turnover documentation.

• Collaborate with Business Development on pre-contract due diligence and site evaluations.

• Allocate time approximately 50/50 between design and field execution across multiple simultaneous projects.

• Report to a Senior Project Engineer while assisting the Project Manager.

• Mentor and guide junior engineers.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 4 years of experience in solar PV design, project engineering, or a related discipline.

• A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a relevant technical field; equivalent experience will be considered.

• Proven ability to manage responsibilities across multiple concurrent projects with minimal supervision, including interconnection from application to PTO.

• Comfortable dividing time between design/office work and active field activities; this is not strictly a desk job.

• Proficient with Helioscope, PVSyst, AutoCAD, and Procore.

• Familiarity with NEC and solar PV components; knowledge of California Electrical Code is advantageous.

• Capable of reading construction drawings, structural plans, and single-line diagrams.

• Acknowledgment that deviations necessitate documented engineering dispositions; verbal approvals are not acceptable.

• Strong communication skills with clients, contractors, utilities, and AHJs.

• Willingness to pause work and escalate issues when field conditions conflict with approved drawings.

• Ability to navigate active sites, climb ladders/stairs, and lift weights up to 50 lbs.

• Openness to frequent travel to project sites and working outdoors in various conditions.
