Program Officer, AIR Opportunity Fund

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Oversee designated aspects of programmatic initiatives from planning through execution and assessment under the guidance of the portfolio manager and director.

• Act as a representative of the Fund at regional and national conferences, community gatherings, and field-based events as necessary.

• Handle multiple projects and workstreams while ensuring timely delivery of results.

• Perform research, landscape analyses, and environmental assessments.

• Consolidate research findings, field insights, and learnings from grantees into comprehensive reports, briefings, and presentations.

• Cultivate and maintain relationships with grantees, community organizations, researchers, and other stakeholders.

• Organize meetings, convenings, site visits, and activities for stakeholder engagement.

• Provide subject-matter expertise in workforce and economic opportunities, health, and/or youth pathways.

• Evaluate grant proposals, conduct due diligence, and formulate funding recommendations.

• Monitor grant and program performance, track outcomes, and pinpoint areas for learning and improvement.

• Collaborate with AIR researchers, subject matter experts, and operational staff.

• Manage existing grants and partnerships while supporting implementation and learning activities, rather than sourcing or approving new grants.

⛳️ Requirements

• Master's degree in public policy, public health, social sciences, education, nonprofit management, community development, or a related discipline.

• At least four years of professional experience that includes applied research and philanthropy, grantmaking, social impact investing, or comparable funding experience.

• Expertise in workforce and economic opportunities, health, and/or youth pathways.

• Knowledge of the Deep South, Cleveland, Chicago, and/or Washington, DC regions.

• Proficient in using research, evaluation, or data-driven methodologies to guide program design, funding decisions, strategies, or organizational learning.

• Experience in managing or supporting grant portfolios, philanthropic initiatives, research projects, or community-based programs.

• Background in working with community-based organizations, research institutions, public agencies, philanthropic organizations, or cross-sector collaborations.

• Capability to manage multiple projects and priorities while delivering high-quality outputs.

• Strong research, analytical, and critical thinking abilities.

• Public speaking and presentation proficiency.

• Competence in simplifying complex information for varied audiences.

• Excellent interpersonal, project management, and organizational skills.

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

• Willingness to travel nationally as required.

• Must reside in or near one of the Fund’s priority regions.

• Applicants must currently possess authorization to work full-time in the U.S.

• The position is exclusively open to U.S. citizens.

• Must obtain clearance through the National Background Investigation Services (NBIS) system upon hire.
