Professional Qualification Evaluator – Public Trust

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Assess and review credential applications along with supporting documentation utilizing practical mariner expertise.

• Analyze basic-level professional qualifications and pinpoint any missing or inconsistent information.

• Conduct technical evaluations of maritime training course submissions and draft preliminary responses.

• Ensure the accuracy of case records and coordinate findings for consistent and timely assessments.

• Screen, assess, and process Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) applications.

• Assist in safety and suitability evaluation workflows within assigned authority and according to established NMC procedures.

• Review requests for maritime training course approvals for regulatory compliance and draft precise, accurate responses.

• Collaborate with NMC personnel and maintain comprehensive evaluation documentation.

• Meet established quality standards and turnaround times.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must hold or have previously held a U.S. Coast Guard-issued MMC endorsed as Master of Self-Propelled Vessels of Not Less Than 100 Gross Registered Tons (GRT) for Great Lakes and Inland Waters (or superior routes).

• Demonstrate proficiency as a Level III Professional Qualification Evaluator.

• Level III proficiency must be validated through documented experience reviewing units of work with a proven error rate of less than 9%.

• Completion of Level I, Level II, and Level III training courses provided by the Government is required.

• Experience in reviewing merchant mariner credential applications or maritime training documentation is advantageous.

• Familiarity with U.S. Coast Guard merchant mariner credentialing regulations and documentation is a plus.

• Must fulfill Public Trust requirements.
