Product Engineering Lead, QVAC

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Oversee the application and feature teams developing QV.AC functionalities and app experiences utilizing the local AI stack.

• Manage daily operations of teams by removing obstacles, assessing contributions, and ensuring timely delivery.

• Establish and uphold high engineering benchmarks for performance, reliability, and well-structured APIs.

• Take ownership of technical design and the API interface between the AI core and the application.

• Collaborate with AI research and deep technology teams on code evaluations, design, models, and inference processes.

• Work alongside product managers to transform vision and roadmap into defined, actionable tasks.

• Address scope discrepancies and suggest improved implementation strategies.

• Provide guidance on product decisions concerning local model capabilities and constraints.

• Employ AI tools and rapid prototypes to validate concepts.

• Define team objectives and establish success metrics.

• Mentor team leaders and enhance team operational systems and collaboration.

• Report directly to the CTO while taking guidance from the product team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience managing engineers or engineering leads who deliver consumer products, preferably AI-driven applications.

• Strong understanding of product dynamics.

• Insight into applied AI and constraints related to on-device performance, such as model size, latency, memory, and battery usage.

• Capability to differentiate between reliable features and mere demonstrations.

• Extensive usage of AI tools and openness to experimenting with new models and functionalities.

• Proficiency in JavaScript and React.

• Demonstrated initiative, curiosity, resilience, and the ability to provide and accept constructive feedback.

• Preferred: experience with local or on-device inference, LLM evaluations, cross-platform mobile and desktop applications, or open-source projects.

• Excellent communication skills in English.
