Product Engineer – Accounting, Ledger

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Estonia.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and sustain both backend and frontend systems that drive our core platform.

• Provide solutions through APIs to enhance user experience, with workflow automation as the foundational approach.

• Assume complete accountability for end-to-end solutions, from grasping the problem and defining success metrics to implementation, monitoring, and ongoing enhancement.

• Collaborate with Product, Design, and key stakeholders to convert accounting, tax, and regulatory requirements into scalable product solutions.

• Create and manage integrations with tax authorities and regulatory filing systems, while considering factors such as reliability, security, and operational limitations.

• Develop and oversee reconciliation and period-close workflows, ensuring that ledgers remain balanced and financial records are closed accurately and promptly.

• Make informed technical choices that balance security, performance, quality, and long-term sustainability.

• Contribute to enhancing observability, system reliability, and engineering practices across the platform.

• Maintain a curious mindset towards emerging technologies, including AI-assisted engineering workflows and developer tools, viewing agentic workflows as a means to enhance your skills.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated professional experience with Java and the Spring Boot framework in production settings. Proficiency in Python and React is highly desirable.

• Proven track record in developing products within accounting, tax, ledger, financial reporting, or other regulated financial sectors.

• Practical experience with accounting or ledger systems and designing and implementing regulatory or tax-authority filing integrations.

• Strong understanding of double-entry accounting, VAT, and tax-reporting principles, including their practical advantages, trade-offs, and limitations (e.g., e-invoicing and SII-style filing).

• Proficient in SQL and capable of designing database schemas that function efficiently under real user loads. Experience with PostgreSQL is an advantage.
