Principal Solutions Architect – Federal Health

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Assist in the growth, capture, and development of solutions for federal initiatives, with a primary focus on the Department of Veterans Affairs.

• Independently create, write, and enhance proposal-ready technical narratives for RFIs, RFQs, RFPs, task orders, white papers, and other federal endeavors.

• Develop and assess technical proposal content to ensure compliance, feasibility, differentiation, and alignment with customer goals and evaluation standards.

• Collaborate with Growth, Capture, Proposal, Delivery, Engineering, Pricing, and Executive teams to formulate technical solutions and winning strategies.

• Facilitate technical solution sessions, proposal evaluations, color team reviews, oral presentations, and discussions with customers or partners.

• Examine solicitations, PWS/SOO, technical requirements, Q&A, and acquisition documents to pinpoint objectives, risks, assumptions, and opportunities.

• Design and articulate enterprise architectures encompassing application modernization, cloud, data, APIs, healthcare interoperability, DevSecOps, cybersecurity, and operations.

• Convert customer requirements into technical methodologies, implementation strategies, workstreams, technologies, staffing models, and unique differentiators.

• Utilize knowledge of VA technology and healthcare environments, including VistA, CDW, MHV, Federal EHR/Oracle Health, and associated enterprise systems.

• Create architecture diagrams, data flows, integration models, modernization roadmaps, conceptual designs, and other technical documentation.

• Assess technologies, platforms, and potential partners to establish build, buy, reuse, integration, and teaming strategies.

• Offer technical advice on emerging technologies and recognize opportunities to integrate AI and Generative AI into federal healthcare solutions.

• Utilize AI-assisted tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, and GitHub Copilot for research, requirements analysis, architecture development, software engineering, and proposal tasks while validating results.

• Promote responsible AI practices, encompassing data protection, human oversight, model evaluation, security, governance, and mitigation of hallucinations.

• Undertake additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to further team objectives and ensure project success.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Information Systems, or a relevant technical discipline.

• Over 10 years of experience in enterprise IT, software engineering, systems architecture, or related technical areas.

• More than 5 years of experience in Solution Architecture, Enterprise Architecture, Technical Architecture, or similar technical leadership positions.

• Extensive experience supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs, ideally within VA healthcare, OIT, Digital Health, or major enterprise technology programs.

• Experience in architecting, modernizing, integrating, or delivering complex enterprise or healthcare systems.

• Proficient in estimating technical staffing, labor categories, levels of effort, and implementation timelines.

• Experience in federal capture, solution evaluations, Black Hat, Pink/Red/Gold Team reviews, or oral proposal presentations.

• Excellent technical writing skills with the capacity to distill complex architectures into clear, persuasive, evaluator-focused content.

• Proven experience in developing and presenting technical architectures, solution concepts, implementation strategies, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Up-to-date knowledge of AI/ML and Generative AI, including LLM applications, RAG, AI agents, prompt/context engineering, model evaluation, and responsible AI practices.

• Strong analytical, communication, facilitation, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities.

• Comprehensive knowledge in several areas including Cloud architecture and modernization; Application and legacy system modernization; Microservices and API architecture; Data architecture and analytics; DevSecOps and CI/CD; Healthcare interoperability; Enterprise integration and event-driven architecture; Cybersecurity and Zero Trust; Production operations, scalability, resilience, and observability.

• Additional experience with DoD/DHA, CMS, HHS, or other federal healthcare programs.

• Previous federal/government experience.

• Familiarity with VA enterprise architecture, Technical Reference Model (TRM), ATO, security, or technical governance processes.

• Experience in integrating legacy VA environments with modern cloud, API, data, and Federal EHR capabilities.

• Working knowledge of HL7, FHIR, REST APIs, and healthcare integration technologies.

• Experience with AWS and/or Microsoft Azure cloud environments.

• Understanding of Shipley or APMP proposal methodologies.

• Relevant certifications in cloud, architecture, cybersecurity, healthcare IT, or AI.

• Ability to fulfill applicable federal background checks and suitability requirements, including Public Trust, and to obtain and maintain a security clearance when necessary for the customer or opportunity.
