This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Iowa.
• Act as the software project engineer throughout the pursuit, bidding, planning, execution, and sustainment phases.
• Offer project management and technical guidance.
• Oversee engineers from entry-level to highly experienced professionals.
• Relay technical progress, risks, opportunities, financial data, and project-management details.
• Ensure alignment with Collins Aerospace's technical engineering protocols.
• Establish development plans and guarantee adherence to DO-178 and other certification standards.
• Spearhead certification initiatives through audits.
• Promote best practices within the software team and facilitate effective software project execution.
• Mentor and coach engineers transitioning into leadership roles, CAMs, or PEs.
• Design, develop, and validate avionics display software on bare-metal and RTOS platforms.
• Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related discipline.
• Capability to lead software development teams and collaborate effectively with others.
• Experience in managing technical projects, encompassing scheduling, earned value management, and risk management.
• Ability to implement changes and encourage best practices among peers.
• Proven leadership, excellent communication, and strong interpersonal skills.
• Outstanding problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Capacity for critical thinking and understanding the broader impacts beyond immediate issues.
• U.S. citizenship is mandatory; only U.S. citizens are permitted to access information under the program/contract.
• Preferred: Experience with avionics regulations and certifications such as TSO, MIL-STD, DO-160, DO-254, DO-178B/C, DO-297, and APR4754A.
• Preferred: Proficiency in Embedded C++ or platform-level software development.
• Preferred: Familiarity with RTOS.
• Preferred: Experience with DOORS, PREP, JIRA, and Confluence.
