Principal Software Engineer – Postgres

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North America.

📋 Description

• Oversee the design and execution of sophisticated system features encompassing storage, replication, query execution, and performance enhancement.

• Enhance and expand Postgres internals to boost reliability, scalability, and efficiency.

• Develop prototypes and create Postgres extensions that integrate with cloud-native infrastructures.

• Work collaboratively with product, infrastructure, and cloud platform teams.

• Analyze and enhance database performance through low-level instrumentation and benchmarking techniques.

• Provide technical guidance and establish standards for engineering excellence.

• Mentor senior engineering staff.

• Independently drive projects from inception to production.

• Influence key data-platform components and architectural strategies for systems handling substantial workloads.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 10 years of experience in developing systems software using C/C++ or Rust.

• Experience with Go is advantageous.

• Extensive understanding of PostgreSQL or other database engine internals, particularly in storage, execution, or replication subsystems.

• Strong grasp of concurrency, operating systems, and performance engineering principles.

• Demonstrated ability to deliver large-scale systems or core infrastructure features from start to finish.

• Experience in contributing to open-source databases or similarly complex systems is highly preferred.

• Capability to work autonomously with significant independence and accountability.

• A practical problem-solving mindset with a focus on simplicity and measurable outcomes.
