Principal Software Engineer

📋 Description

• Establish architectural strategy and technical standards throughout the platform

• Develop, launch, and sustain features across the entire stack

• Influence product strategy in collaboration with leadership

• Recognize and lead cross-team initiatives that enhance our development processes

• Elevate multiple teams through design reviews, tooling improvements, and mentorship

• Manage DevOps, infrastructure, and deployment pipelines

• Convert ambiguous challenges into actionable plans

• Facilitate technical discussions and formulate product and technical strategies

• Partner with experienced colleagues and engage in regular pair programming

⛳️ Requirements

• 8+ years of software development experience in a production environment

• Comprehensive technical knowledge across the stack — JavaScript/TypeScript, Node, React, PostgreSQL, AWS, Linux — with expertise in key areas

• Systems thinking: you design with a holistic perspective, not just focusing on isolated components

• Proven history of enhancing engineering operations — beyond merely delivering features

• Fosters alignment among teams; produces persuasive technical documentation

• Comfortable navigating ambiguity at the organizational level — you proactively create clarity without waiting for explicit requirements

• In-depth understanding of HTTP, networking, and infrastructure

• Strong product insight — you grasp the business context, user needs, and associated trade-offs

• Experience in building and scaling SaaS products

• Background in early-stage startups (Series A/B)

• Familiarity with healthcare or veterinary technology sectors

• Experience collaborating cross-functionally with non-technical teams

• Proven ability to manage features from concept through to production

• Passion for pets and a solid understanding of the veterinary landscape

• Located in the USA or Ontario, Canada

• Willingness to travel quarterly
