This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama.
• Develop expert-level code in various programming languages while driving technical solutions and acting as a subject matter expert.
• Lead development projects and promote best practices throughout the Software Development Lifecycle.
• Serve as a knowledge resource and mentor for junior engineers within the Technology department.
• Oversee the code modification and review process to ensure high quality and optimize processes.
• Utilize and analyze metrics across teams to uncover opportunities for improving the SDLC, conduct peer reviews, and implement solutions.
• Write organized, clean, efficient, and secure source code in at least two programming languages and develop shared libraries.
• Guide team members on data structures and algorithms to effectively solve business challenges.
• Contribute to development operations, coding practices, technical strategies, and domain enhancements.
• Help formulate and evaluate technical roadmaps that address strategic needs and technical debt.
• Assist in the deployment of engineering capabilities while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Facilitate discussions with business and technical stakeholders about technical and architectural opportunities.
• Design, review, and approve system architecture; ensure cross-domain alignment and direct strategic initiatives.
• Engage in and present at peer group committees and collaborate with senior leadership to foster improvements.
• Ensure that code quality meets industry and corporate standards.
• Promote adherence to performance testing, resiliency, and optimization practices.
• Encourage behavioral changes in requirements and story ingestion processes with product owners, architects, and senior leaders.
• Comply with risk and regulatory standards, policies, controls, and risk appetite; escalate risk-related concerns.
• Foster a culture of belonging that reflects the M&T Bank brand.
• Uphold M&T internal control standards and execute audit and regulatory findings.
• Carry out other related responsibilities as assigned.
• Associate's degree with a minimum of 9 years of systems analysis and/or application development experience, or a Bachelor's degree with at least 7 years of systems analysis and/or application development experience.
• Alternatively, a combined minimum of 11 years of education and/or relevant work experience, including at least 7 years in systems analysis and/or application development.
• Demonstrated experience as a technical lead in large-scale modernization, migration, or platform transformation projects involving multiple delivery teams.
• Proven ability to influence engineers, architects, product owners, and senior leaders without direct authority.
• Demonstrated experience in designing, developing, and delivering complex enterprise-scale software solutions across various technology domains.
• Expert proficiency in at least one relevant programming language and advanced proficiency in at least one additional relevant programming language.
• Experience with solution architecture, managing architectural changes, and aligning technical delivery across multiple applications, platforms, and engineering teams.
• Comprehensive understanding of software engineering practices related to resiliency, availability, security, observability, recoverability, and operational readiness.
• Proven experience in identifying and mitigating technical risks, resolving dependencies across teams, and driving architectural decisions through implementation.
• Experience in designing and governing API-based integrations, distributed systems, data synchronization patterns, and enterprise application architectures.
• Familiarity with enforcing engineering standards related to performance, security, reliability, maintainability, and production support.
• Preferred: experience in banking or financial services technology environments.
• Preferred: experience in highly regulated environments subject to risk, audit, compliance, and security requirements.
• Preferred: understanding of agile concepts and delivering large complex projects within an agile framework.
• Preferred: experience in establishing architecture runway and coordinating technical dependencies across extensive, multi-year programs.
• Preferred: experience working with enterprise architecture, cybersecurity, infrastructure, data management, and operational risk organizations.
• Preferred: experience in defining non-functional requirements and engineering standards related to resiliency, scalability, observability, recoverability, performance, and security.
• Preferred: experience mentoring senior engineers and serving as a technical leader across multiple teams and disciplines.
• Preferred: experience presenting architecture recommendations, technology strategies, and risk trade-offs to senior leadership and governance committees.
