Principal Software Developer – Search Algorithms, Elasticsearch

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Drive projects within Elasticsearch to create a leading vector database solution.

• Dedicate full-time efforts to Elasticsearch by developing new search functionalities and resolving bugs.

• Enhance code clarity and, when necessary, innovate or apply algorithms and data structures.

• Work closely with the operating system and hardware as required.

• Collaborate with a globally distributed team focusing on Elasticsearch vector search capabilities.

• Act as an authority on the implementation of Elasticsearch vector similarity and enhance the field based on inquiries and insights.

• Engage with community members globally on issues and pull requests, including triaging, delegating, and resolving problems.

• Write idiomatic modern Java code.

⛳️ Requirements

• Professional experience with vector similarity and vector databases.

• Familiarity with HNSW, IVF, or other pertinent algorithms and libraries utilized in large-scale search platforms.

• Strong proficiency in core Java, encompassing standard-library data structures, concurrency constructs, and lambdas.

• Capability to manage projects from inception to completion, including technical design and collaboration with engineers.

• Experience in collaborative development and providing and receiving constructive feedback on code, methodologies, and APIs.

• Experience with data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.

• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

• Proven ability to leverage AI to expedite development, troubleshoot complex systems, and enhance code while taking ownership of final outcomes.

• Ability to collaborate across functions and teams, transitioning between projects, codebases, or teams based on business needs.

• Capacity to work independently and drive decisions and results within a distributed team through asynchronous, direct, and transparent communication.

• An export license may be required as a condition of employment for individuals residing in or nationals of specific sanctioned countries or regions.
