Principal Platform Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the complete technical delivery for platform initiatives, spanning from discovery and design to implementation, rollout, and operational readiness.

• Create and develop scalable, observable, and maintainable shared platform capabilities, APIs, gateways, and backend services.

• Assess and prototype new technologies, including AI agents and automated workflows.

• Transform promising AI methodologies into safe, reusable tools for the platform.

• Lead technical design evaluations.

• Guide engineers through code reviews, collaborative sessions, and provide actionable feedback.

• Provide self-service tools and automation to eliminate manual tasks and reduce operational costs.

• Promote continuous improvement within production systems.

• Utilize GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, and agentic coding tools to speed up delivery and automate routine technical tasks.

• Construct and manage systems utilizing Ruby/Rails, Python, Rust, React/TypeScript, GraphQL, and cloud infrastructure.

• Advance platforms to enable AI agents to discover capabilities, perform actions, monitor outputs, and autonomously recover from failures.

• Integrate innovative tools and methodologies into production settings.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

• Generally, 5+ years of experience in designing, building, and operating complex production systems.

• Familiarity with platform, infrastructure, backend, or developer tooling environments.

• Extensive experience with distributed architectures, microservices, APIs, and cloud infrastructure.

• Proficient in Ruby/Rails, Python, or Rust.

• Practical experience in employing and implementing modern AI-assisted engineering workflows, including AI agents, LLM integrations, or Copilot.

• Demonstrated experience in leading complex technical projects from start to finish.

• Capability to clearly communicate trade-offs and influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.

• Ability to remain seated for extended periods, utilize a computer or office equipment, and communicate effectively.

• Experience with GraphQL technologies, API gateways, React, and TypeScript.

• Familiarity with e-commerce, personalization, or large-scale retail engineering ecosystems.

• Proven track record in developing self-service platform tools that safely expose infrastructure to AI agents.

• Contributions to open-source software, industry whitepapers, or technical communities centered on developer tooling and platform engineering.
