This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee the complete architecture, engineering, and lifecycle management of enterprise Unix and Linux platforms.
• Act as the technical lead for significant Unix and Linux projects.
• Design scalable Unix platforms across Amgen's data centers and cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Combine virtualization, container orchestration, storage, networking, and enterprise management tools.
• Set and uphold architectural standards, validation controls, governance frameworks, configuration baselines, patch management, vulnerability remediation, privileged access protocols, audit readiness, and adherence to regulatory compliance.
• Provide guidance to senior technical leadership, security teams, architects, and business stakeholders regarding architectural choices and trade-offs.
• Establish best practices in platform engineering, infrastructure as code, configuration management, and DevSecOps methodologies.
• Propel automated provisioning, CI/CD, backup and recovery, configuration drift control, Agentic AI usage, and cost optimization strategies.
• Manage capacity planning, performance engineering, technology modernization, benchmarking, root-cause analysis, and controlled testing procedures.
• Offer technical leadership and mentorship to engineers at levels L4 and L5.
• Facilitate cross-functional collaboration among Unix engineering, cloud, storage, network, database, middleware, cybersecurity, application, and service management teams.
• Assess and implement technology and architectural changes to enhance platform resilience and supportability.
• Spearhead major incident escalation and complex problem resolution, which includes service restoration, root-cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
• Doctorate degree with 2 years of relevant experience, OR a Master’s degree with 4 years of relevant experience, OR a Bachelor’s degree with 6 years of relevant experience, OR an Associate’s degree with 10 years of relevant experience, OR a high school diploma/GED with 12 years of relevant experience.
• In-depth knowledge of enterprise Linux architecture, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Ubuntu, and/or Amazon Linux.
• Proficiency in operating system internals, system hardening, patching, upgrades, performance tuning, capacity management, reference architectures, technology roadmaps, and architectural principles and standards.
• Strong skills in Unix systems design and problem-solving.
• Experience in designing, delivering, and supporting large-scale, highly available Unix and Linux platforms across physical, virtualized, and cloud settings.
• Expertise in clustering, disaster recovery, storage solutions, networking, and service continuity.
• Advanced automation and scripting skills using tools such as Ansible, Python, Shell/Bash, infrastructure as code, source control, and CI/CD methodologies.
• Familiarity with AWS, Azure, or GCP infrastructure, virtualization, container platforms, enterprise monitoring, and security controls.
• Understanding of resilient hybrid-cloud architectures and cost optimization practices.
• Capability to provide principal-level technical leadership, mentor engineers, communicate effectively with both technical and business stakeholders, and coordinate during major incidents.
• Relevant industry certifications like RHCE, AWS, Azure, or GCP are advantageous.
• Advanced experience with Ansible Automation Platform, Terraform, Puppet, or similar tools is preferred.
• Experience with identity and access management, privileged access management, LDAP, Active Directory integration, Kerberos, certificates, and secrets management is advantageous.
• Knowledge of CIS benchmarks, vulnerability management, audit controls, and automated remediation practices is considered beneficial.
• Working knowledge of enterprise middleware and database dependencies within Unix/Linux platforms is beneficial.
