Principal Fish Passage Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Act as the project manager and technical leader for interdisciplinary projects related to fish passage, reintroduction, river restoration, and water resource management.

• Oversee planning, alternatives analysis, design, hydraulic assessments, permitting assistance, construction supervision, and post-project evaluations.

• Provide engineering guidance for significant dam fish passage and salmon reintroduction initiatives.

• Create technical documentation, engineering memoranda, proposals, budgets, and project timelines.

• Guide and mentor engineering and scientific personnel.

• Represent Anchor QEA at technical committees, conferences, and through published works.

• Cultivate new client relationships and secure additional projects with fisheries, fish passage, reintroduction, and restoration stakeholders.

• Assist in complex water resource, fisheries, and ecosystem restoration projects across California and the Pacific Northwest.

• Contribute to the growth of Anchor QEA's fish passage and reintroduction practice through client engagement and strategic leadership.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.

• Preferred: M.S. coursework or advanced specialization in hydrology, fluvial geomorphology, or a related field.

• California Professional Engineer license required.

• Approximately 30 years of progressive experience in water resources, fish passage engineering, and river restoration.

• Proven expertise in hydraulic design, fish passage, fish screening, salmon reintroduction, and evaluations for large dam passage.

• Experience in leading multidisciplinary teams, managing budgets, and facilitating complex interagency collaborations.

• Strong skills in technical writing, presentations, and project management.

• Established connections with DWR, CDFW, NOAA Fisheries, USFWS, USBR, USGS, and other resource agencies.

• Ability to identify and create new business opportunities.

• Successful completion of a comprehensive background check.
