Principal Engineer, Foundational Services

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Lead the development of the technical strategy for Foundational Services.

• Assist in the planning and execution of tasks across supported services.

• Design, implement, and maintain robust platform solutions to ensure availability and security.

• Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure seamless access to systems, applications, and data.

• Execute planned projects and provide support for operational tickets from internal customers.

• Engage in hands-on coding, debugging, and deployment of solutions.

• Design scalable architectures that integrate infrastructure services with technology teams.

• Create comprehensive documentation, diagrams, and proof-of-concept models.

• Participate in planning sessions, roadmap discussions, and architecture evaluations.

• Offer strategic guidance and expertise in load balancing, IPAM, DNS, Hashicorp Vault, and PKI certificate management.

• Identify and resolve stability, capacity, and performance issues using Prometheus, Grafana, and Splunk.

• Implement automation and infrastructure-as-code practices.

• Complete Jira project tasks following the SAFe methodology.

• Commit infrastructure build, automation, and testing code to GitLab.

• Support compliance with PCI and security requirements.

• Coordinate with Networking, Data Center Operations, Security, and other teams.

• Respond to, recover from, and mitigate failures and outages.

• Provide mentorship and coaching to junior team members.

• Report directly to the Foundational Services Manager.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong hands-on experience with most supported technologies, such as Netscaler Load Balancing, Hashicorp Vault, DNS, certificate management and PKI, egress proxies, Fastly, and Apigee.

• Solid understanding of security protocols, compliance standards, and both cloud and on-premises data center environments.

• Experience in supporting a high-volume, 24x7 production environment.

• Familiarity with GitLab, CI/CD tools, monitoring and alerting systems, and SRE practices.

• Knowledge of PCI compliance and security best practices.

• Preferred experience in software development using Python, Java, or Go.

• Understanding of software design patterns, code reviews, and Git-based version control.

• Experience with Agile methodologies.

• Proven track record as a key contributor in a fully remote team.

• Highly knowledgeable about the majority of in-scope services.

• Ability to work on highly strategic, complex, and high-risk projects.

• Self-motivated and proactive.

• Exceptional problem-solving skills.

• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

• Comfortable collaborating in cross-functional and multidisciplinary teams.

• Strong awareness of security and compliance implications.

• Willingness to participate in on-call duties and possible after-hours support as necessary.
