Principal Engineer – Core

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Define the long-term architectural strategy for the event-driven platform.

• Mitigate risks and streamline the codebase to avoid systemic technical debt.

• Lead strategically significant initiatives across various verticals.

• Create frameworks and patterns for building, operating, and scaling systems.

• Act as the primary escalation point for complex distributed-systems challenges.

• Offer technical guidance to address high-stakes issues and facilitate team progress.

• Mentor and uplift senior engineers and technical leaders.

• Collaborate with product and business leaders to outline technical strategies and achieve consensus.

• Establish benchmarks for testing, observability, incident response, and platform resilience.

• Represent the organization through technical publications, conference presentations, and contributions to open-source projects.

• Collaborate with Product Engineering, Security, Infrastructure IT, and other platform teams to develop, enhance, and maintain the platform.

⛳️ Requirements

• 15+ years of overall software engineering experience, including 10+ years in Senior Staff roles or higher, overseeing the technical design of large, cross-team projects.

• Proven experience leading multi-team or multi-vertical initiatives over several quarters with minimal supervision.

• Ability to independently identify business-critical challenges and advocate for new investments.

• A history of establishing technical patterns or standards that have been adopted by other teams.

• Experience mentoring Staff/Senior Staff engineers towards achieving technical leadership.

• Strong history of managing incidents or operational risks with a focus on systemic strengthening.

• Exceptional communication skills and ability to build consensus among engineering and business/executive stakeholders.

• Preferred: experience in payments, identity, or loyalty platforms, particularly within a regulated gaming or fintech context.

• Preferred: experience with organizational convergence, platform consolidation, or large-scale architectural migrations.

• Preferred: familiarity with SOX, PCI, or similar control frameworks.
