Principal Engineer, AI Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Define and spearhead the technical strategy and architecture for Ridgeline's AI platform and shared AI capabilities throughout the organization.

• Guide technical decisions that empower engineering teams to leverage AI platform capabilities in scalable, reliable, secure, and responsible manners.

• Identify and address systemic technical challenges impacting the availability, usability, extensibility, or reliability of the AI platform.

• Collaborate with teams developing individual AI solutions to integrate them into the shared platform.

• Set engineering standards and architectural frameworks as AI technologies advance.

• Establish reliability and evaluation criteria for AI models deployed in production.

• Collaborate across Engineering, Product, Data, and other departments to align AI platform investments with company priorities and customer outcomes.

• Design external data integrations through retrieval-augmented generation, including connections to third-party data repositories.

• Create token-efficient AI systems, such as model routing and code execution.

• Suggest and assess new AI features while resolving technical discussions to ensure team alignment.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 15 years of software engineering experience, with extensive knowledge in systems architecture.

• Proven experience in building and delivering an AI-powered product in a production environment.

• Familiarity with agentic loop design, structured responses, tool calling, Model Context Protocol (MCP), and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).

• Capability to architect scalable, efficient system designs and evaluate technologies for AI system components.

• Experience in establishing best practices for software development and reliability/evaluation standards for AI models in production.

• Full-stack expertise in front-end and back-end AI product development.

• Proficiency in Kotlin, TypeScript, and React.

• Experience working with Anthropic and/or OpenAI models and APIs.

• A history of influencing technical or architectural decisions and aligning stakeholders across various teams.

• Experience integrating third-party data sources and achieving measurable enhancements in AI model performance and token efficiency in production.

• Bonus: experience with multi-agent systems, AI agent orchestration, or advanced model evaluation techniques.

• Bonus: background in financial services or investment management.

• Bonus: contributions to open-source AI/ML projects or publications in the field.
