Principal, ECAD Layout Design Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take responsibility for the execution of ECAD design within the assigned scope, ensuring planning, coordination, and delivery are in line with program schedules and engineering requirements.

• Engage in hands-on ECAD design and layout for intricate printed circuit card assemblies, including multilayer rigid, flex, and HDI designs.

• Assist with schematic capture and layout implementation while managing constraints related to high-speed, high-voltage, and high-current.

• Convey design status, technical risks, and schedule implications to engineering stakeholders and program teams.

• Participate in cross-functional design reviews involving Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Configuration Management.

• Create and uphold fabrication, assembly, and design documentation packages.

• Oversee ECAD data within PLM systems and ensure compliance with configuration management standards.

• Apply DFM, DFA, and DFT principles throughout the layout design process.

• Troubleshoot complex electrical, mechanical, and manufacturability challenges in collaboration with cross-functional teams.

• Offer technical guidance and informal mentorship to junior designers.

• Support ECAD standards, library usage, and best practices across various programs.

• Enhance ECAD processes, systems, and design practices to boost performance, quality, and efficiency.

• Coordinate ECAD activities for minor projects or specific work scopes.

⛳️ Requirements

• A degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field with at least 5 years of experience.

• Proficiency in PCB layout utilizing ECAD tools; Siemens Xpedition is preferred, while Cadence Allegro, Altium, or similar tools are acceptable.

• Experience in designing multilayer PCB layouts and supporting intricate electrical designs.

• Competence in managing electrical and physical constraints within PCB design tools.

• Familiarity with Siemens Xpedition VX or 2504 for complex PCB layout design is preferred.

• Experience with high-layer-count PCBs and high-speed digital interfaces is preferred.

• Understanding of HDI, microvias, stacked microvias, flex circuits, and backplanes is preferred.

• Experience with DDR4/DDR5 and considerations for high-speed design is preferred.

• Knowledge of signal integrity and power integrity principles is preferred.

• Experience with DFM/DFA/DFT implementation in PCB design is preferred.

• Familiarity with ECAD–MCAD data exchange processes is preferred.

• Experience with PLM and configuration management systems is preferred.

• IPC CID/CID+ or PCEA certification is preferred.

• Background in aerospace, defense, or other highly regulated industries is preferred.

• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional engineering teams.
