Principal Cloud Computing Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Develop data flow, cloud, transition, and high-level architecture diagrams for cloud infrastructure, applications, and systems.

• Design, build, deploy, and manage CI/CD automation technologies.

• Oversee and regulate cloud service provider permissions for applications, storage, and services.

• Implement and supervise monitoring for cloud architecture and hosted systems to ensure performance and adherence to VA and Federal policies.

• Deliver customer-centric support for product lines and services, including the setup, configuration, and provisioning of VAEC environments.

• Assist systems and applications in VAEC Azure GovCloud environments while ensuring compliance with development, release, and documentation requirements.

• Utilize DevOps practices and CI/CD tooling.

• Supply Cloud Security Provider documentation.

• Design VAEC and cloud-hosted solutions while addressing cloud-readiness gaps.

• Lead or participate in cloud modernization, migration, and transformation initiatives.

• Mentor engineers and contribute to the governance of cloud architecture.

⛳️ Requirements

• A bachelor's degree and 20 years of experience, or a master's degree and 10 years of experience, in computer science, systems engineering, cloud engineering, or a related technical field.

• Advanced Azure certifications are preferred, including Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert, Azure Administrator Associate, and Azure Security Engineer Associate.

• Demonstrated experience in designing, deploying, and managing Azure infrastructure and services.

• Experience with large-scale, high-availability, and scalable cloud architecture.

• Proficiency in Azure Virtual Machines, Azure Blob Storage, Azure SQL Database, Azure Virtual Network, Azure Functions, Microsoft Entra ID, Azure Resource Manager, Azure Monitor, and Azure DNS.

• Familiarity with Azure security services and practices, such as Azure RBAC, Azure DDoS Protection, and Azure Web Application Firewall.

• Skilled in Azure networking components including VNet Peering, Azure ExpressRoute, VPN Gateway, Private Endpoints, and Azure Load Balancer.

• Experience with scalable, secure, and highly available Azure infrastructure.

• Experience managing multi-subscription Azure environments using Management Groups, Azure Policy, and Azure Landing Zones.

• Understanding of cloud cost management, FinOps, budgeting, tagging, and Azure Cost Management.

• Proficient in Python, PowerShell, Bash, or JavaScript/Node.js.

• Experienced with Infrastructure as Code tools, ARM Templates, Ansible, and GitOps.

• Knowledgeable in monitoring, logging, and observability tools including Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights, Azure Activity Log, Prometheus, Grafana, and New Relic.

• Experienced in optimizing Azure performance, availability, and resiliency.

• Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as HIPAA, FedRAMP, NIST, GDPR, and PCI DSS.

• Experience with encryption, key management, secrets management, Azure Key Vault, customer-managed keys, and Microsoft Entra ID.

• Knowledge of Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, and Azure Database for MySQL.

• Skilled in database performance tuning, backup and recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery.

• Familiarity with Azure DevOps Pipelines, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, and GitLab CI.

• Experience with Docker, Azure Kubernetes Service, Azure Container Apps, and Kubernetes.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, prioritization, and communication skills.

• Ability to mentor engineers, provide technical leadership, lead technical projects, and collaborate across functions.

• Willingness to provide on-call and emergency support.

• Capability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

• Commitment to keeping up with emerging Azure technologies and industry practices.

• US citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
